Game Discussion / Re: A guide to wolfspeak and why you shouldn't use it

I agree above that the terms literate and illiterate aren't really apt to what they're describing. I prefer Literary and non-literary/casual. It has a similar sound, and the words are a lot more accurate to what they're trying to describe.

Also, in the OP post, the first example, about the ebony pendulum...until someone explained it a few posts later, I seriously thought that was an excerpt from something...inappropriate...and was looking at it all O_O . Words have meaning for a reason.

...25. Oh no, I'm the oldest, aren't I...O_O

Oh well. (Gets out a rocking chair, cane, and obviously fake beard) "Back in my day, phones had no screens, you had to rewind a movie after watching it, blow on your video games to make them work, and there were 151 Pokemon counting Mew and MewTwo, and that was the way we liked it! Dangit git off my lawn!"

I hope FH doesn't get dismantled or disolved (as on, FH is empty and over because everyone's on alternate servers if it goes fully open source). I mean, I practically just got here, it would suck to have to pack up and leave again as soon as I finished moving in. :/

I don't like the trnd of gaming all moving to FB and mobile platforms. I much prefer the client-based kind of game, like FH or SecondLife. I basically use my FB as a box to put my more unpleasant family members in so they can't mess with the rest of my life, and only open it when I absolutely must. Even if I made a separate FB account, I just really, really hate being on FB. It feels...icky. Feral Tails could be made of solid gold and cause your comp to spit out candy, and I wouldn't hang around on FB to play it. If it wound up in the android app store, and still wasn't one of those "free to play" games that make you pay actual money for random things you need for the game like most app store games, MAYBE, but I'll take an old client game over a new FB/app one any day.

If he decides not to come back even when Feral Tails is finished (if it ever really is. App management tends to be an on-going work) couldn't he just make the code "open" instead of open, as in give the coding the project files directly to current FH staff, and let them take over the work he doesn't even want to do, but under a license/contract/other agreement that restricts access to only active coding staff? Basically "hireH them to do it in his stead, kinda sorta? Name a successor, you might say? That way, we get updates, he gets FH off his back, and there aren't 1000 FH clones running around, because it's not actually opensourced. It's still secret source, he just let a few more eyeballs in on the secret.

Introduction / Yay! Finally! Just happy to be here. *cackles*
« on: February 11, 2014, 09:58:49 pm »
I'm so glad to finally be here! When I finally saw that "Create an account" link appear, it was like coming down the stairs on Christmas. But the wait paid off and here it is!

So, everybody. Hi. Since I have a lot of different animal characters, and I'm looking forward to modeling them in-game to rp with. I've read about FH having the ability for users to do things with textures and meshes to create items and maps? I've done that in a lot of other games, so I was looking forward to seeing if that happens in this one.  I'm Abbi, and my main animal character is a spotted hyena named Nabani. You can call me either one, and you should see me as Nabani around in game soon. I know hyenas are more or less a niche species here if I read right, but I hope there's active hyena groups. Getting the hang of roleplaying here will be kind of weird, since I come from a background of long-form email or forum literary rp (or literate if you prefer, but I think literary is both more accurately descriptive of the form, and more polite, I've been doing for longer than I'd like to say because it makes me feel old, heh. Posts in those games are at least a few paragraphs/few hundred words, frequently more, and that doesn't really work for live roleplay. It seems like the functional maximum would be about a paragraph or so? Otherwise, it feels like it would get awkard, everyone standing still staring at each other through such a looooong typing pause. So I guess I'll need to practice being a bit more succinct. Even now you can see I kind of go on more than maybe I should. So I'll wrap it up here.

I'm open to pretty much anyone who wants to roleplay or just chat. I'm not picky about what kind of character you have and things like that, I try to find something I like about everyone. So, to leave on that positive note, see you later in game!
