By ''what maps are for,'' do you mean what they are? Maps are the little worlds like Fluorite Plains and Temple Of Dreams. When making them, they should have one layer, be greyscale, and have the size of 513x513. Follow Crin's little guide, and you'll be an expert in no time!

Note that the "second" part of the tutorial is just making different textures of the terrain, the "first" part is the simple part - how to make the map itself. If you need any help feel free to post here and I'm sure others will be willing to help.

well I hardly know anything about maps right now, so I don't think I'm ready to make one yet, but thank you. I kind of just wanted to know things like, "how do you download them?" "why is there maps set for private use?" or "why are they made?", etc. I just don't really understand, so I was hoping someone would explain them to me, and how they work and things I'd probably need to know about them.
I'm so confused.... So I thought I'd go look up some videos and try to understand the whole thing.... But instead my confusion became worse 
So can someone take a second to explain in depth what the maps are for, etc etc etc.... Like trying to tell a 3 year old about something they've never seen, or heard of before...... 
other wise I'll probably never understand
