Game Help / Can't play the game?

A little story before the actual question:
I found this game or website through Spechie and decided to try it out.
With that being said i make an account and confirm it in my gmail. Now the real question I have is:
Do i need to download to play?
Reason? I ask this because I've been trying to play the free version but all that does is show me a picture of a landscape on the bottom of my screen and then some news on the top. Thats it. I tried refreshing the page but that does nothing but change the picture. I think this game/site has potential and I really want to try it out, but I can't if nothing I do works.
And with downloading it, It just seems sketchy to me. So if I really need to download the game I rather have a admin tell me because you can't really blame me for being cautious.
So someone please help?
