Lassie vs. Silver
I was not always an artillery director... I remember when I was a runaway experiment. Before I joined the United Nations Military, before I became a living legend, I was a cyborg on the run from my Nazi creators. I traveled with some American friends to southwest America; the home of the cowboys. I had left Nevada on a train to Texas one morning, and it was a train ride I will never forget...
"This train aint big enough for the two of us"
Sleeping was not possible, and still to this day; everytime I close my eyes... Everything is a haze of visions. I convinced the conductor of the train to let me work with him. He was quite friendly, and often was thankful for my assistance. It was the least I could do, since sleeping was not an option, and sitting down for too long made me restless. There was almost no one else on the train, except two other passengers.
One sat accross from me, a dog woman, like those I saw back in Germany. She was rather busy, but I paid no attention to her, as I thought it would be suspicious to have a set of red optic eyes focused on me, too. The other passenger was in the rear cart, but he occasionaly moved up closer to mine. I thought nothing of it, for I could not see his face. However, he looked vaguely like an American desperado.
As the desperado came near, the woman jumped and drew a pistol from her belt. I jumped, too, and yelled, "What the hell are you doing?!" She gave a quick glare at me, and opened the roof hatch. The desperado did the same, and soon, both were on top of the rail cars. Terrified, I looked for the condutor, who was nowhere in sight. In the front of the trai was a note that I found, which read "I'm not paid enough for this, crazy bastards. -G"
Gunfire could be heard from up top, and I feared for the woman's safety. Although I was compelled to let the two fight, and not put myself into any danger of being exposed, I could not let myself see the woman in peril. I climbed up onto a railcar, some distance away from the two. There, I saw what I thought woudl be impossible; an android. The android fired bolt after bolt of laser plasma, wich whizzed past both me and his target.
"Lassie, I have come here to kill you; Make it easy for me, and I will kill you quickly". I had heard enough; this android was hell ben t on killing this woman, and I had to stop it. Lassie fired her pistol, and the bullets pinged off of the androids' armor. "Silver, you bastard! whoever hired you should have known who I am!" Again, gunfire was exchanged. This time, I was hit by one of the shots from Silver's arm cannon.
Thankful for my artificial heart, I acknowlaged the burning temperature that would have incinerated an organic one. Still, I kneeled before the blast, which left an awful stench of evoporating metal and artificial flesh. The mercenary charged towards lassie, and knocked her onto her back. Realizing I was running out of time, I put my locomotors into full gear and sprinted to the scene.
Despite the fact that his taget was helpless beofre him; Silver was hesitant to finish her. I now wonder why, but I did not think of that when I tackled him. This sent the two of us tumbling towards the end of the train, where he quickly grabbed me by my neck. "You...You are not human..." he grunted in a mechanical voice. "Get out of my sight, half-breed". He tossed me tot he side, but I clung firmly to the train cart.

Climbing the side was apain in the ass, and when i got back to the battle, Silver stood above Lassie once more. "Lassie... it is a shame... if only", he continued, "It is unfortunate I must kill you". Lassie was speechless, so I took the opertunity to piece my E.A.A.R.(Experimental Anti-Armor Rifle) from the parts on my belt. The merc charged his weapon, and i thought of all the insults in the world that would buy time. "You call me a half-breed, yet you fall for a woman, pathetic!"
Silver turned around to face me, then he turned back to Lassie. "I will deal with you later", he then picked her up and threw her into the cart, leaving the fight between me and him. "Yeah, you little scrap pile! You shouldn't be calling me a half-breed when you can't even do your job!" The desperado began to walk to me, "I will show you the meaning of pain, cyborg". Assemblng the E.A.A.R was a pain in the ass, for the smaller parts fell to the floor often as I franticly tried to put the damn thing togather.
Loading in a single bullet, I jumped to my feet with a broad "Aha!", but, my opponent quickly hoisted me off my feet. "You inferior creations are not even worthy to be melted into my parts, let alone mock my... complications". I could see Lassie climb back up to the top, so I took the opertunity to use one of the old tricks taught to me by my American friends. "Hey, look! Lassie's behind you naked!"
I snickered a little as Siilver turned around, dropping me as he did so. Lassie began to shoot at him somre more, casuing the shcoked android to stumble back. Timing the act, I slid underneath him and shoved my E.A.A.R.'s barrel almost literaly point blank, and said what first came to mind, "This train aint big enough for the two of us!" and squeezed the trigger. The blast tossed Silver like a ragdoll off the train, while the recoil sent me bakwards.
As I tumbled to the edge of the traincar, I managed to catch my precious E.A.A.R. from falling into oblivion. My left hand could barely hold on to the edge, and I could feel my metal fingers grind against the roof; I was slipping. Lassie reached out for my hand, but I decided to do what I thought was best, and let go.
Time seemed to slow down as I fell, but it could have been what little adrenaline I had rushing to my brain. Once I hit the ground, my body nearly exploded as my arm's gears broke, promptly 'disarmng' me., as did my left leg. By now, she was too far away for me to see without zooming, but I could tell Lassie was shocked to find me to be a cyborg. As I lay quietly, contemplating my chances of survival, I knew that this was not the end of Silver, and that this mysterious woman was still in peril.
That is all I remember of the two, for I never heard from them again. I tried to explain this to my rescuers, but they took no interest of it. Ever since then, I have been occasionaly looking for them, in hopes of solving this bitter conflict, and even more so; discovering the android's true feelings for Lassie. As I said; I have not heeard of them ever since, and honestly, I think I never will.
I hope you enjoyed the story!
