My 2 Tips for making a good character!

Tip #1 Look at a RGB chart and pick some colours! Like the one i use...

Personally, the creation of characters takes a lonnnnngg time to come up with.
I start with a personality and build the character around it, trying to make the personality as detailed as possible before I work on the physical characteristics.

But, yes, external influence is crucial to get your mind's cogs turning. Music is great, along with literature and even sometimes art. (So long as you don't steal any designs to a T)
