I am trying to make a transparent background, but I don't know how. Any help?

xD It's alright.
Well, what you could do is make a new canvas, then go to the 'Layer' menu at the top, then go down to 'Transparency' and click 'Add Alpha Channel.'
Then use the eraser tool to get rid of all the whiteness.

OR!

When you make a new canvas, click on the Advanced Options, and next to where it says 'Fill with:' go to the drop down menu and click 'Transparency'.

I think the second way is the proper way to do it, but both seem to work.
