How to get maps and skin textures plus items to work on Mac

So my friend uses a texture for their skin and I have downloaded the pack but we couldn't get it to work since she has windows and I have mac. I want to know what folders I need to put them in and I am hoping I wouldn't have to download any programs unless absolutely necessary! Thank you so much for helping me!

I'm not too familiar with macs. RawSyndicate had a thread on installing mods onto macs but it's no longer available. You can find her thread here.
