Map Terrain mask help?

I've been having an issue on my game, and im unsure if others have had this issue when making a mask for a map on the game. But, whenever i put in the mask, it comes out very strange and messy and nothing like the actual mask, and when i go to one of the other 'terrains' or colors such as red, blue or green, it makes the area that isn't black brighter/painful to the eye?

I'm talking about:

and when i change the terrains on others like 1, 2, and 3 it does this:

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game multiple times, and also have resat the game and also thought it was my computer messing up, and even restarted my computer. I've double checked the guide to know where i have to put the terrain and mask, i feel like im doing something wrong, but im unsure.
