Feral Heart Height Map Keeps Crashing
« on: January 02, 2016, 01:26:16 pm »
Every time I try to load a Height Map in Mapmaker it crashes.

It doesn't matter what map it is. I've tried downloading very many height maps online, making my own, making them grayscale, making them color, and even renaming original files but it will always crash no matter what I do and nothing, absolutely nothing appears to fix it.

I do not have gimp, photoshop, or Sai. I use Medibang Paint.

I recommend using GIMP

Woah, the biggest mistake is to use paintool SAI/ Medibang Paint., because the thing is that you cannot put it as a greyscale canvas. I recommend you to use Gimp only. Try doing it on Gimp again and tell me how it goes. Here are some tips to help you:

1- The canvas size should be 513x513
2- Grayscale canvas
3- Use the colors going from Black to white. Make sure it doesn't have a dot of yellow, red, etc.
4- Save it as .png
5- Make sure the Alpha Channel is not on. Go to Layers > Transparency and if it says 'Remove Alpha Channel' is available, remove it.

Also, make a new map in map maker. It's better to start from scratch than borrowing Watermills. Then, you can save your height map (as .png) in the new folder that will show up. It should be the name of your map.

In case you're not using the GIMP software, be sure that your height map is all on one layer. If it isn't already, merge the layers down. Also make sure there is no Opacity/Transparency in the heightmap either. For example, don't save it as a format for transparent images, choose the flat option when saving.

Ah, as these lovely floofs 'ave mentioned, make sure to follow up on those points.

Also, make sure ye are not giving the file name any spaces!! No spaces should be used in naming a height map file, as FH will oddly crash when trying to load it. I learned the hard way and took hours to figure this out.

Tmw you planned a ten minute nap but instead took a whole year.

If you're going to download GIMP for this, I'd recommend that you try to find an older version of it because the newer version has a bit of an issue when it comes to saving something as a .png. If you do end up getting the latest version, when you try to save the heightmap as a .png, go to the link that comes up when you do; that'll save it the correct way.
