Decreasing the View Range?
« on: February 10, 2012, 06:14:45 am »
Recently returned to FH and it seems the lag caused by the game has increased tremendously. By the looks of it, it seems that the minimum viewing range was increased. I play on a laptop and I really can't play as well as I used to due to the fps lag. My typing is now pretty bad and trying to get anywhere can be really difficult.

So, does anyone have any idea what "config" files of the game to edit to reduce the viewing range to the way it was before? I've already changed the in-game view range slider to 0 but that hasn't really helped. Turning down all the settings doesn't help either.

Am thankful for any tips. I'll try a clean install and see if that will help any in the meantime. I really can't that of anything else that would be causing this lag.

All you should have to do is, unless you're playing on FH+ in which case I'm not sure if this works, go into options, click the video tab, scroll down to view distance and set it to zero. If you've done all of that and wish to decrease it still, that I cannot help with. Also, make sure that you have your water reflection off as that usually helps a lot

Hope that this helped in some way!

C:\FeralHeart and look for the cfg file called settings and open it with wordpad.

There's a line with the name viewdistance in it, change the value to something lower, like 0 as you mentioned. However though as posted above, there's other settings that could smoother the gameplay for you.

Here's a post you should look into if you haven't.

I do have a clean install and the only mods I have are the claw mods, which I haven't even put back in yet and it does still lag. As I said, I have all of my settings turned down, which includes water reflections. Using DirectX not OpenGL, of course. Everything the same as it was before the patching.

I tried your suggestion, Red, but the value was already at 0 when I opened it. I'm assuming that value is the same value one sets with the in-game slider.

I'll look around a bit more and report back here if I find anything. Thanks anyway.
