Mane mishap (Solved)
« on: November 01, 2012, 03:35:57 pm »
Right, so, making a preset. I've added a mane to it but for some reason it looks a bit...weird.
Let me show you.

See that spiky greyness? Whatever it is, I don't think it's meant to be like that.
Anyone got any suggestions as to how to fix this?

Can you send a picture of the preset mane png file? I can't give you an exact explanation as to how to fix that up until I see that file :). It's possible that you did something strange along the bottom where those triangles are and that's why it's coming out that way.
In the meantime you can check out these tutorials to maybe give you a better idea of how to work off that problem you're having or at least help you redo it better:
1.)

2.)
http://www.feral-heart.com/index.php?option=com_jfusion&Itemid=2&jfile=index.php&topic=13541.0

Also make sure that your mane file's dimensions are 512x512 for the best results

Hope something there helps
Goodluck Doctor Flob :)
Cool preset btw

Here's the png file. And I've checked it's the right size.
I had the transparent mane problem but fixed that.
Hmm those threads aren't the answer to the problem either...I'll redo it, I think and see if it still turns out the same.

20 minutes later...

It still looks the same. But in one of the tutorials the mane had the same thing as mine does...maybe it's meant to be like that.  :-\ But then why isn't it the same colour as the mane in my preset when it was the same in the tutorial's preset?

Argh...so confused.

Well, on the right side the mane is more like, grey rather than white due to the fur/shading.
That's what's causing the grey spikez.

In order for them to disappear, you should try to remove the grey part, make it lighter.

Hope dis helpz.

What exactly is it that's bothering you though the spikey parts in general or the dark grey shade of them?

The fact that they're dark is most annoying. If I could make them the same colour as the mane then it'll be fine, whether I can remove the spiky bits or not.

Oh, and the dark patches don't seem to want to go lighter in Gimp.

Oh ok I understand yeah so try what Ramine said. The hair is supposed to be white/light grey right? So as she said you can try lightening the right side of the texture then. Put the first underlayer white then lighten the second layer of the texture on the right side using maybe white with the opacity on a low number setting. If you like I can help you and send the corrected file to you once I get home.

I've done it!  ;D I made a new layer, coloured it white, put it on top of the other layers and decreased the opacity of it. It's lookin' good now.  :D
Thank you so much, dudes! :) +Floof for you both
