Need to know some things about map making!
« on: November 02, 2012, 09:01:31 am »
Hello! I've got a few questions, all map related.

1) Although I've made many maps before, I've never tried creating my own ground textures. I finally made a map that needed a texture to make the grass red and bloody and stuff. But where are users supposed to put this, exactly? I haven't downloaded any custom texture maps recently and don't remember exactly where it goes.
2) About the custom textures, I think I know where to save the texture, but just to be sure, it goes in Feralheart>Media>Terrains>Textures, right? Then you edit the defaultTerrain.cfg to have the file's name with the others?
3) I've got this thing called magma_tex inside my Feralheart>Media>Textures. I remember downloading it and using it in the past, but then my FeralHeart got destroyed and I had to reinstall, thus losing it. I downloaded a map that used it, and now I'd like to know how I can get magma_tex to stop being a white blob when I use it as the Ocean Texture. Anyone know how?

Well to make custom textures you have to make sure its PNG then you put in in feralheart>media>terrains
When you open the mapmaker, (say you named your terrain BloodyGrass.png) you should go to the place where you choose your terrain, then scroll down and you should see it. (just click on it if you do)
But for questions 2&3 I can't really help you ;)

No longer active on the forums, though I do check back once in a while.

Thanks. Still dunno where people need to put the custom textures or how to use magma_tex, though.

To use custom textures, place the png or jpg images into FH>Media>Terrains>Textures.

Also in this file you will see the defaulttex.cfg open this with notepad and add the name of your custom terrains to the bottom, save, close and then open
map maker, there new terrain options should be there.

This isn't the same case with custom water though, did you check the link zaro posted to?

If you take a look at the Member-Made tutorial section, and go to Ouka's list, there is a tutorial on using custom waters.

Alright, thanks. I think when people download the map they're supposed to put it inside Feralheart>Media>Textures, and not Terrains>Textures. Not sure, though.

it depends, the water reflection goes into fh>media>textures ( think so) and i /know/ that custom terrains go into FH>media>terrains>textures.
