Material file Help
« on: December 22, 2013, 03:14:17 am »
I believe I messed up Feral Heart for myself Dx I accidentally opened a material file with notepad and now it's doing that for all my material files and I don't know how to undo that.... I have Windows 8 as well, if that accounts for anything.

See, I tried to get a new object into my game. I have the mesh, and with WinZIP the file shows as (for example of the one I was trying to get) PileofRocks.material. Then, when I got it into FeralHeart>media>objects>my_objects, it didn't show as PileofRocks.material. Just plain PileofRocks, yet it said it was a material file. FeralHeart can't read it because it will automatically open with NotePad.

Please help? I need to know how to undo this.

Thanks <3

This should go in Game Help, floof~ c:
Anyways, just right click any .mat file and go under properties. There, you can change what you want the .mat(s) to open with. I'd leave it on Notepad due to the fact you must use notepad for many mods/presets/meshes and all that stuff.

Oh, it completely normal for that to happen. Same happens with presets. Lets save I save something like map.png (EXAMPLE) When I look into it's file were I saved it, I'll just come up map.

EDIT: By the way, was anything else in the WinZip file? The .mat file that goes with meshes just tell the mesh how they are textured. That's not the actual 'mesh'.

Along with the mat file, there's PileofRocks.mesh, and aomapRock.png. The white appearance also happens with my Tree Den. The files for this are Tree_Den.png, Tree Den.mesh, and Tree Den.material

Ah yes. The .mat is what tells the mesh how to work and appear, the .png is the texture, or what colors you'll see on the texture, and the .mesh is a mesh file the has been converted to fit FH's programing. It'll come from Blender or another common 3D studio. ( It's the rock's shape )

Well, it should show by it's self. When you download it from someone, I'm certain they already coded it for you. Just put it in-game and check.

.material files are supposed to be opened with Notepad or similar programs so it's all good. When you're typing in the mesh's texture/material it's not actually the name of the .material file but what's actually inside, to open it you use Notepad like you have already done.

The first line should look something like this:

material rockMat

The part in red is what you type in Object Maker. Make sure to include all capital letters, symbols and spaces.
Will be inactive due to work and exams.
