Whewww.... 2 Terrain Mask help
« on: May 17, 2014, 11:35:58 pm »
Title ^
What I'm trying to do is make a map with two terrain masks, but when I try, everything is bright and I end up running away screaming "MY EYES!!! MY EYES!!!!!!" wait wat

Anyway, is there a way around this? Another note, the colors on the two masks don't touch eachother at all. I'm a bit confused. I really want to make this map, just because of the concept I have in mind of it. So, can someone tell/show me a way around this? Thanks :)

I know what you mean, it's the red, blue and green that hurts my eyes.

I experimented a bit and you can use darker colours if that helps. Instead of bright red, blue and green I used a darker shade of each. It hurt my eyes a lot less and the mask still showed up in-game.

EDIT: Keeping the dark red background, I used dark purple and a dark yellow instead of blue and green and it worked also. So this can work with a 6 coloured terrain mask, just using darker colours that are all different from each other.

I could use darker colors, but the problem is, part of the map is a cave system. I wanted to have the shade of the texture get darker to make it appear like it's underground and such. I can't use darker colors on the map because if I did, the cave system wouldn't seem sort of realish with the darker textures o,o

I don't think it will make a difference if you use darker and lighter colours.
If the terrain comes out dark (but it shouldn't) it must be a problem with the files.
If you want a working mask without BRIGHT colours, I'm afraid you might not find a way to do this.

TIP: When you're making the mask, lower the bright colour opacity down. When you finnish, make it the level you want so it doesn't burn your eyes while you're making it.

If you want a realistic look , I would say you  use the 'overlap terrain' method.

Steps:
1-Get a shade of red + Green/blue.
2- Do the red places you want on the map.
3- Go OVER them in green/blue on a new layer.
4- Lower the green/blue layer opacity down.

If you want a dark cave terrain, I would use the darkstone (On the mask it would be red at full opacity.)  and black. (On the mask it would be green or blue at about 10-20% opacity.)
Done!

Now in the game, load up your terrain mask. Add the terrains, and you should have two of them mixed together.

WARNING: If you mix light terrains together, it will become VERY BRIGHT.
For example; Detail + Snow Tex won't make a pretty one. It will make your eyes EXPLODE.

I hope this helped a little bit with the mask making!
