PETA, why do people even LISTEN to them?
« on: October 27, 2011, 07:13:58 pm »
  >.> I'm sure everyone has heard of PETA, and there are probably a few fools who think they are for the world and all that junk. But seriously, PETA has got to be the worst group out there... They only seem to exist for publicity for celebrities.

Did you know that right know they are trying to sue seaworld for whale slavery? That's right, they are suing seaworld for whale slavery XDDDD

PETA never researches into what they do. They are against so many things that actually do the animals good, and never realise it, making them look stupid, which in the end they are.

A while back they had some nude compain against teh removing of skin from a shjeep behind. Claiming it was cruel and should be banned.

You want to know why this practice is done?

Because it prevents much LARGER issues that cause a slow painful death. You see, the wool on teh back of a sheep collects feaces, which atracts flies. Flies then lay their eggs, which turn into maggots. The sheep becomes fly blown. http://www.cahl.ie/seasonalinfo/blowfly.htm  <-- info there.

Tell me, what is more cruel. A quick cut to get rid of skin and prevent these future issues, or allowing the sheep to die slowly in such a way?

To me, PETA is FOR animal abuse, not against it. They do this through stupidly camaigning against things that do animals no harm and can be good for them.

(And yes, we are searching for a better way to keep sheep clear of the issues without cutting into the skin, but it has to be done on a large scale, and farmers need to be able to afford the option too. And we are not just going to stop until a better option is found, it doesn't work that way.)

Yes, at the moment there RE better options. But people just can't AFFORD IT. Those people don'tr want their sheep to become flyblown, but can't afford to be bankrupt wither. No matter how much you think farmers should be rolling in teh dough they aren't, they sell their product cheap, it's teh brands and such that sell it all for a high price so they reel in a big profit.

It's not just the fly issue, but those sheep are specifically bred to grow wool and keep growing it, it's in their genetics. There was a story a while back about a domestic sheep discovered who had seemingly escaped a few years ago  or something. It was practically a huge ball of wool.

Also, PETA like to guilt trip people into vegetarianism with those slaughterhouse documentaries. They use old footage, even from foreign countries of whats done in those slaughterhouses, but food animals aren't treated like that anymore in most places.

^ I agree -.- PETA doesn't help stop animal abuse, at all to me.

Even though I don't like PETA at all, it is a special interest group.
It's a total personal opinion and the thing some people dont realize is that there probably is a lot more going on than they're letting on to the public. Therefore I cannot say too much about it, because not a lot of people know the full extent behind a special interest group :/

Hm. There is a anti-PETA campaign somewhere on Facebook.

-Now to be honest, I thought the group was legit...but I had to do a bit of research of my own. First reaction was, "Wait, I got caught up in PETA for nothing?" and now have a different opinion.

-also, the way they try to bring people in is sexist. "Veggie Love"? C'mon now. I rather watch a dog chasing his/her own tail than that. If your going to drag your point across, at least do it effectively. Not posting nude shots and pornographic women to urge others to become a vegan.

(Btw, I lurk on forms now...I just don't see many topics of my interest...)

Ayyy~

PETA kills more animals than they rescue. They also don't believe in eating meat, only vegetables.

But vegetables are also living things. Once you take a tomato off a vine, it starts to die off and rot. So, if I'm eating vegetables, does that make me cruel since I'm eating a living fruit? If you want to eat something that's really non-living, go eat rocks!

I understand animal awareness and such but some people take it too far and only make themselves look silly. Such as PETA.

...If you're so concerned about cooking a lobster alive think of the vegetables. They might scream when put in boiling water, too! O:

Haha I love those shirts...

Animals

But its not just for PEOPLE to be vegans and what not, they're supporting dogs and other meat eating animals not to eat meat or anything else that products from animals. Now...if you ask me....that's quite silly. People can choose what they want to eat.... Dogs eat what they should eat. Same with other animals. Taking every kind of meat and animal product out of another animals food is like taking all the necessity out of their lives.

I dated a vegetarian for a while and his argument about that was that vegetables aren't animals and don't have nerves, or a thought process and can't feel pain and all that jazz.

I think that's a pretty decent argument tho but I wouldn't turn vegetarian xD We're made to eat meat AND plants so there's nothing going to stop me from doing that :u

I hate those people who force their animals to eat vegetables only just because THEY are vegetarians or whatever. My old teacher at my animal care courses would talk about morons who would come in with incredibly sick cats and wonder what's wrong with them, why they are losing weight and such. A cat is designed to eat meat only, so it's digestive track is small in comparison to those that eat plant matter, because plant matter takes longer to digest. So the vegetables just go straight through them, no nutritional gain at all. It's wrong and cruel.
