Map Terrain
« on: November 19, 2011, 11:20:00 pm »
I recently made a map, and everything works, there is just one little problem...and I don't know if this can be fixed.
The ground on my map, if sloping down a hill is jagged and bumpy -

But the ground on the FH+ Maps are smooth

I used GIMP to make the map.

When on Gimp, use the Blur tool to make the hill on the heightmap smoother. That should fix it :)

When I use GIMP, what is the right brush to use. The Airbrush or just the Paintbrush?

Either, it depends on what effect you want. But after you have finished with the brushes, then you use the blur tool to make the hills smooth.

Map size.

Make the map larger, the hills will automatically get smoother in most cases. Also play around with a height that's not too much.

If you want really smooth hills on a smaller map you should make a big mapsize and use boundaries I'd say.

However, in general you should use some sort of blurtool on the heightmap to get the smoothness of hill etc. The values in the map maker doesn't do it as well, but on a greater scale the change the appearance of the hills.
