No, you dont. Its just another option for people who haven't bought it on the computer and would rather play it on a console.

However, as far as I know xbox Minecraft users cannot connect to PC servers.

I would totally get Minecraft for the xBox just if I had a Xbox I have a cousin with one and I dun have one D: I wish it would come out for the wii or PS2 because thats mostly what I have xD or maybe a DSi c: lol but just gotta wait and see xD
