Fail to connect to main server

Okay, so I was chatting with someone with a computer like mine, who lives just down the road. They have no issues connecting, while when Im actually able to get into a map, I end up being glitched into the emptiness outside of the map. I think it may be the mods that I own, or the map files I had moved. Either one, I wouldnt know. I just need help immediately!

Do you mean, like a black background?

No, I mean, like beyond the boundaries, its not black, and you can still see the map terrain. Surely Im not the only one who has complained about such an issue as being glitched out there.
And, something I realized, my laptop has not been connecting well, so that may be the issue. Since the town I live in is small and looses power to even the slightest of rain storms, I dont doubt that my laptop has issues with the connections.

This usually occurs due either to a glitch of the server or, like you said, a connection error. 

Are you at least able to surface to the top via a water object or a low spot on the map?

And this is only happening for you in a private map? This isn't a public map issue or isn't happening to others in the private map? Just for clarification on my part
