A Standing Chance (Realistic Wolf RP)

Alayni huffed as her shadow stretched in the large den, she would wonder how a den would form and etc.

Zanu nodded, looking at Khar who was on his shoulder. He then turned in the direction Abyss had looked and saw Nik.

"I was not part of a pack, it was a clan.  It is led by a group of wolves but the head wolf is called the Chief, not the Alpha.  They worked closely with owls which allowed us to have many things we could not make.  Owls are handy builders.  There is a female wolf that is unable to have pups called the Obea.  Her job is to take Malcadh pups to a Tummfraw.  A Malcadh is a pup that is born with a defect.  A Tummfraw is a place where the pup will certainty die.  The wolves that where the Malcadh's parents are no longer allowed to be mates.  But if the pup lives it is allowed to join the pack as a Gnaw Wolf.  A Gnaw Wolf is even lower than a Omega.  The treatment of a Gnaw Wolf is the worst.  Many of them don't live for more than two years."  Nik stopped and looked at his paws.  "I am a Malcadh, my back leg was crooked when I was a pup.  But it has grown into a normal shape over the years." He said.

     Abyss nodded. "I see... I've heard of such a pack... We had a wolf whose ears couldn't stand up straight in our pack... He spoke of a thing known as 'Gaddergnaw'..." She blinked.

(Hehe, you caught me off guard! I recognize the word but forgot the meaning. *Searches on google*)

"The Gaddergnaw is a competition that only Gnaw Wolves can enter in.  The one wolf who wins joins the Sacred Watch.  These wolves protect some special ember or something around a circle of volcanoes.  It is said that when the new Owl King comes and gets the ember from the boiling lava all the Gnaw Wolves will be healed of their defects.  I never cared much about it since it is so rare and the Sacred Watch is so far away from the Clans.  Plus in order to have a chance in winning I would have to Gnaw a bone which I was never too good at.  Gnaw Wolves would write out stories on bones with their teeth.  It was their main job!  So I wasn't the greatest Gnaw Wolf around."  Nik said.

(Im such a Kathryn lasky fan, But I havnt read her wolves of beyond series)

Zanu nodded. He had heard of owls from Khar and had been fascinated by what they were able to make. "Hmmm, so I guess you know what its like to be in a harsh pack" He said slowly "I guess it was because of coming from such a brutal pack, that I reacted like I did when your Alpha ordered a wolf to be killed, because I dont want to see that happen in another pack." He dropped his head to look at the clear water "I want to stop it happening in any pack I come across at any moment, able or not, I will try to help any wolf, even if they are of low rank, like what you had in your pack, a Gnaw wolf, I would still help it" He said looking up.

Alayni flicked her left ear as she padded towards the group as she lowered her abdomen, she pointed her cranium towards the water lapping it up, until satisfied her pack she didn't want to talk about her pack, the one she was born in she wasn't born into Abyss's pack. she pointed her cranium towards the Earth's surface, it was easy to tell that she was a Gnaw Wolf, though It didn't show much, she looked at the previous bones she chewed, as she looked towards the water and kicked them in, Hoping they would think a Gnaw Wolf came and it was not her.

(So you know about the Ember Of Hoole and the other stuff about the owls.  I have read both of them but I haven't finished them because my mom got me hooked on a different book called Eragon)

Nik smiled at Zanu.
"Then you are a good wolf, Zanu."  Then Nik realized how different his life had become.  He had went from Gnaw Wolf to Beta so quickly.  Nik held back a sign.  He wasn't sure he could uphold such a high status.

Alayni looked towards them as she then said "Going out again." Trotting down the hill slope.

     She smiled faintly. Artemis was the way. Whether a wolf had strange colors and markings, or if they had wings. She sighed as she thought. She looked up at the sky. She knew that the following night would be a full moon. She remained quiet as she looked across the river to see the ghostly white pelt of her deceased alpha.
