Shock exploded through Helian, sending electric jolts of fright spiraling up spine as her fur stood on end. Her ears pressed back against her head as her eyes widened to the size of large discs, and the wolf found herself tumbling through the window after her friend, sharp bursts of pain blossoming in her body as the jagged glass sliced through her flesh. She barely landed on her paws, stumbling for balance as she scanned Adro's body before focusing on her own. Shiny bits were trapped in their skin and caught on their pelts as red threads of dark blood stained their fur, trickling out of open cuts and paper-thin slits.
Helian swallowed nervously, wondering how long it would take to clean themselves up. However, the image of the trapped wolves pacing in their cages flashed through her mind, reminding her to stay on task. "Well," she shakily whispered, traces of laughter caught in her words, "aren't we a beautiful mess?" She glanced both ways, but she saw no signs of danger. A musky scent of leather, sweat, and humans draped the air, and she wrinkled her nose, but she quickly smoothed the emotions from her face when she caught the smell of the trapped wolves surrounding them. "Well, that was surprisingly easy to find them," she muttered, wincing as her paws crunched on broken glass. Every bit of her ached from slamming into the tree and getting cut open, but she knew they needed to quickly move before the humans returned.
"Adro and I came back for you guys," Helian hissed, already opening one of the locks. The cage door squeaked as it swung open.
