I don't think technology, even in the future, would be able to reach another civilization. The particle accelerators at CERN can only reach 99.999(something)% of the speed of light. If they were to amp the energy/speed it were going already, they'd have to make an accelerator that goes around the Earth. Why am I saying this? There are an estimated 90 civilizations with intelligent life that are in our observable universe, each one of them are millions of LIGHT-YEARS away.
Anyways, yeah, we're most likely never going to visit aliens. v_v
