I posted a thread similar to this a few days ago, two threads away from this one xD

Anyway, CryptoLocker is horrible. Completely destroyed FH on my other computer, got rid of all of my pictures, and more. The private key ended up being destroyed after 3 days because my antivirus removed the threat once the files were encrypted. Though, I did have to share that computer, and the only thing I installed on there was FH. It wasn't me who got the computer infected u.u

CryptoLocker is a nasty thing ouo. Look up a video on YouTube of it working. It's cool to watch it in action until you get infected with it yourself :3. CryptoLocker is the main reason to why I look at emails or anything else on the web through my phone. Becaush Apple ish aweshum ouo

Just for wondering eyes and the topic above for people who dont read the whole text. Feral Heart does not give viruses to your computer. the FH setup is a safe program that isn't doing to infect your computer. Just want to put this out there for people who didn't real the full text above.
Also i am grateful your father removed it, but am sorry you lost files in the process. Hey it could have been much much worse where the virus could have corrupted your entire computer.
I do highly advise anyone who goes into the internet alot to always go in with a anti-virus protection at all times.
I Stalk from time to time...I have moved on to other things but do miss this place. Good times

A virus! Gosh I hate them SO much.
It's good to hear that your father deleted everything c8
It's always handy to download an anti-virus program to stay away from trouble.
Very sad to hear that your friend lost everything.
Stay safe around the internet~

Well, this is a misfortune I hoped would never turn up. I am grateful that ye' warned us Ms. Psychotic. I've underwent a serious virus situation before that resulted in me throwin' out my whole laptop. T'is somethin' I would not like to experience again.
At least yer system and other additional devices are safe and sound at the moment. Hopefully not many will have to undergo such a virtual horror.

CryptoLocker is the main reason to why I look at emails or anything else on the web through my phone. Becaush Apple ish aweshum ouo

This will prove to be another reason as to why I prefer to look at e-mails or other message-sharin' sites other than Feralheart because I trust Feralheart completely and it's non-virus components on my phone or Kindle.

Don't worry. It's pretty easy to tell if you have it.

When you open the infected program via desktop shortcut, nothing will happen, but the icon will disappear. It does this to preserve itself. Once executed, weird processes in Task Manager will start and end. It will still seen like nothing is happening.

During this time, CryptoLocker will attempt to connect to one of the malware writer's servers to set up a Public key and a Private key set. The Public key encrypts the files while the Private key decrypts them. CryptoLocker uses toe Public key to encrypt files that include Microsoft Office files, .jpg, .png, or any other image file. The Private key is stored on the server.

Once CryptoLocker is done encrypting the files, a window saying "Your personal files are Encrypted!" will appear on the screen, and the desktop background will be changed as well. The background says that if they're antivirus deleted the malware and you were willing to pay the ransom of $300 U.S. or 2 Bitcoin, you could redownload it from a website address they give you.

After 72 hours, the Private key will be deleted from the server. A fun thing to do with this virus is set the time back on the computer. You can set it back to the year 2000 and get more time xD. That's really the only way to keep the server from destroying the Private key.

To remove CryptoLocker, you can't run an antivirus. The reason why is because the virus will look for processes that can kill it. Most do, today at least. The weird part is that it only looks by name. Take Malwarebytes for example, CryptoLocker will kill the process if it's named "malwarebytes.exe". You would have to rename it to something like "joe.exe" to get Malwarebytes to even start.

And that, class, concludes our lesson on CryptoLocker...

Huge post xD, but it was worth it ouo

Lol I love these threads. :P
Anyways, I have heard about this virus a few months ago, and yes, it is quite deadly. (To a PC lol)
When installed via .zip via email, it adds a "key" to the computer's registry that tells the PC to encrypt certain files of possible importance. (.pdf, etc.) After encrypting the files, a message pops up demanding a payment via "Bitcoin". Once the payment is made, the files will become decrypted and once again the PC will be back to normal. :P

I would type more, but most is above this post. xD

DO NOT open random, "legit" emails!
