What Is 'Spamming the Chat' Considered to YOU?

So recently, I was on FeralHeart in-game, and I was advertising both through movies and posting in the local chat.
I was only posting in the local chat every 6-8 minutes. I only published a movie clip when it fell off the chat, to which my chat box was fully extended.

I had a user that whispered me and told me that I was being 'annoying' and they told me to stop.
It was worded something like, "We don't need you advertising in the local chat because it's annoying. Please stop advertising."
I had a very long, dragged out conversation with them through whisper, and they kept telling me that I was spamming. I simply replied, (not as rude as they were), and said something along the lines of, "I am not doing anything wrong. I am not posting excessively, therefore, I am not breaking any rules."

I asked them what 'spamming the chat' was considered to them, and they replied, "If I see the same thing posted 3 times in the same chat."
Ummm, okay. I am not spamming then. Not even my published clips were posted excessively like some people's are.

Anyways, my question is, what is spamming considered to you?

to me, spamming the chat is just someone either using one letter constantly every post )ex: "e" "e" "e" over and over again). spamming to me is people saying non sensible things repeatedly. spamming is just people trying to be annoying or to get attention.

i don't think too much on spamming. sure, it annoys me sometimes, but i don't hate it completely.

In my opinion spamming is when someone is shouting the same thing over and over again every second and won't stop doing it. As long as the person doesn't spam almost each second then to me it is not considered spamming.

I definitely agree with you on that one. I've had multiple situations where people either fill the chat up with random letters while CAPS LOCK is on, and things where people just post random letters individually for attention.

OH MY GOD that happens so many times! Definitely what most consider spam.

I've seen people call a casual conversation "spam". It sounds like it may have been one of the same people.

Spamming is more considered filling up the entire chat in repeated and shortly timed posts by one person. Whether that's just composed of 1 word posts, random letters/numbers, etc. I doubt this person that told you to stop spamming knows what spam is.

That's definitely not something I'd consider spamming.

To me, spamming is clogging up and disrupting the chat with a repetitive or uninformative word, phrase, etc. and usually with malicious intent (trying to annoy others, get a reaction, etc.) Advertising fairly often can be annoying, sure, but I wouldn't consider it spamming. And especially in your case, that doesn't sound like it would be annoying at all!

But yeah, if its disruptive, fills up the chat, and has no purpose other than to be an annoyance, then I'd consider something as spam.

To me, real spamming would be posting the same movie clip over and over until it's the only thing in the chat and no one else can post anything without getting 'shouted over' as I would put it. Or, of course, posting the same meaningless thing repetitively, etc. I mean, seriously, if that person thought that was spamming I would love to see them try to survive the entierty of the rest of the internet in all its spamful glory lol.

To me spamming is posting over and over again, with like, 4 seconds in between, especially in all-caps. Or when people post movie clips 5+ times in a row.
Even conversations that are just typed in all-caps.

What you were doing would definitely not be considered spamming.
