Downloading Terrain Maps
« on: February 28, 2017, 05:25:47 pm »
I do not want to download everything on FH again, so i want to ask for help on where to put it.
I know not to try to download stuff i haven't tried to download before, so before i got a reply Step by Step i don't feel like trying.
I really wish to make a map that has some height, and that's why i seek to download. However, over one year ago my inexperience with downloading items made me loose FH for many months..
Please help me by telling me Step by Step, so i won't do any mistake i will end up regretting so horribly!

Heightmaps are simply grayscale images that plot the terrain in a 512x512 image. Ye could even make one y'erself, if y'er up to it. Check out this tutorial if interested: click me!

As f'er placing the file, it goes into the terrain folder. Ye can find this folder by going into Feral-Heart, then media, and terrains should be one of the folders inside media! If ye need some screenshots, I'd be happy to oblige. Best of luck with y'er map making!

I recommend following the tutorial provided by Enoki as it's very thorough.

You can't exactly download a heightmap or a terrain map. You usually have to make them yourself. You can also use automatic generators if you don't want to draw one with detail yourself.

Check out this tutorial here

I did download it. However i have no clue on what to do. Nothing new shows on FH, and i have nothing to follow up on... Im too unexperienced to know where to start, but i have waited for this for quite a long time..

Once ye've placed the heightmap into the terrains folder, 'tis stored in y'er games memory. Ye can use them by going to Map Maker and typing the file name in the heightmap generator. So, if the name of the file is "PicklesHeightMap.png" ye must type it as so in the game, and be sure to capitalize all letters which are shown to be capitalized. Let me know how it turns out. ;3

There is no png.
Only Element1Terrain & Element3Mask.
None of em works..

.png is a file extension, sometimes it won't show when looking at files and you will need to right click on them and click "properties". In the "general" tab it will say the file extension at the top. It can be .jpg, .png or .bmp for a few examples.

So the actual filename could look like: Element1Terrain.png and would need to be typed like that, same with the mask. If you just type "Element1Terrain", the game will find nothing.
For the sake of my own health and interests, I've left FH and I won't be looking back.

Sadly that is wrong too. I have already tried that... I tried the .png with both, no result xc...
Nothing ever works for me, it always fails just like this..

[EDIT]
I just tried the mask part. It worked!... However, if its supposed to look black, i dunno XD...

But the try Element1Terrain.png has failed.. Again

[LAST EDIT]
I searched for something new, and i found some of RedLineLies's free maps. I managed to do those!! Im so grateful.. He is a true hero!! And thanks guys, you could help me verify my thoughts and worries! I managed to learn this now :) Im going to enjoy making a map with these terrains!!

Wooo! That's awesome! And mind sharing that non-working height file? I might be able to fix it f'er ye.

And masks should normally look black with one part being colored- ye just got to pick the terrain texture f'er it using the texture box and arrows to select the texture and the area in which 'twill go.

Good luck in map making! ;D
