How do you make textures

Ok so i have tryed to look everwhere and i cant find anything but how do you make texture i make meshs but all  i need is to know how to make texture i only use the basic shapes so all i need is to know how to make textures with like gimp 2 so i can use my own wood and stuff so that i can make log cabins and other stuff i can pay u in mesh's so please help

In GIMP, make a 512x512 square and color. Then make a material file. Copy a material file from your material folder, and paste it in your my_objects folder. Rename it, and open it in notepad. Erase everything in it, and put:

}So, once you have that in, change "MATERIAL NAME HERE" to whatever you want the material to be called. Like (NameOfObject)Mat. Then replace "TEXTURE HERE.png/.jpg," with your textures name and the type of file it is, .png or .jpg
Then load your mesh in game, and insert whatever you called the material (the "Mat" thing) in the blank below where you load the mesh in.

Go to your materials folder, and copy a material file, and paste it into your my_objects folder. Then follow the directions above. (And yes, you CAN open them, in notepad.)
