Site/Forum Help / Re: Malicious Websites?

Alright so I ignored it for a little while but tbh starting to get tired of it

Every time I press the "Play Game" button and log in, it opens a new window, usually saying "You have a virus!", "Adults only game", "You have won ___!" and various other malicious scam or adware-style popups. I do run adblock, yet I still see these things.

I get these on literally NO other websites. I've run virus protection programs (three of them) including avast, malwarebytes and malwarebytes adware remover and got jack, so I'm almost 100% sure that I don't have a virus, and if I do, it's pretty well hidden and is VERY picky about the way it works, because I literally only get it here, and I only started getting them recently (I've been on Feralheart quite a number of years).

So, if this is some kind of ad thing that this website recently got that no one is regulating? Does anyone else get these popups JUST on that screen? Or do you think I might have a virus just burrowed deep into my computer somewhere?? Because if these are from the Feralheart website and not my own computer, I'm probably not gonna be very happy.

And, any way I could possibly get rid of them?

If your machine was indeed infected, that virus would do whatever the programmer of said virus had intended, and something tells me such a programmer would have more nefarious ideas than making you see annoying advertisements on an online game. :P
Since you have ran several scans with no hits, it seems possible to assume the advertisements aren't 'malicious', just annoying/spammy. Advertisement companies (if they are of any worth to their clients) will attempt to filter out adverts with malicious payloads. It's bad for their business. As long as it wasn't one of those ads that like, sends you a suspicous looking executable, it probably wasn't deemed dangerous by someone.

As for making them go away... Well, for whatever reason, I have yet to see any of these ads. My current setup is Chromium, (version 58.0.3029.19), Stands Fair-Adblock, and in addition, I block javascript on most websites (since it can be used to create said malicious payloads.). If you are paranoid as I am, I suggest something similar. :P

I have seen in (some) circumstances that clients can control the content of advertisements displayed, but of course, that portion is up to someone else to change, if it is possible with this company.

Thanks so much for the suggestion to block javascripts. It honestly never crossed my mind to do so. I'll try it out and see if it works for me, and if so, I might try and block javascripts JUST for feralheart, assuming this type of advertising continues.

Thanks for informing me a bit more about the companies and such though. Only thing is, though, I'm a bit worried about someone who isn't as educated in the whole "not clicking advertisements" thing can get a nasty virus from this type of advertising. As in, it's incredibly misleading, and since this website and game has a focus on being kid friendly, this was probably a very bad choice in dealing with adblock problems, and I hope they change it to be a bit more user friendly sometime in the near future.

Yeah I understand it all but the ads are needed to keep this site running without having to pay to use it. And plus, nobody has any power what ads show, so there is nothing anyone can do there.

I'm pretty sure you DO have the power for what ads show... Take a look at almost any professional website with ads. There most likely isn't going to be pop-up ads screaming "YOU HAVE A VIRUS. CALL THIS HOTLINE NOW TO FIX IT, TOLL FREE" in my ears.

You don't just GET ads. You have to go to a company or a provider to put them on your website (such as google ads?). And if the company providing the ads is malicious, you get these kinds of ads. They got in contact with some kind of company to put ads on their site, and I'm pretty sure that the pop ups weren't an accident.

Pretty sure the ads are doing more harm than good, and I'm sure I'm not the only one irritated at this.

Oh no, it's happening to everyone. Some not as frequently as others, but it does happen. It's just something that has to be done and honestly the only thing you can stop it is with adblock's, but as you already stated it doesn't really work. May be hard to do and just frustrating to deal with, but just keep closing those tabs and try not to click on anything they open.

This makes me a bit angry. I mean, if they're worried about that kind of stuff, I'm sure they can put something in to get around adblock users, such as not being able to use the site if your adblock was enabled. Plenty of websites use it.

And the fact that this is unregulated is ridiculous to me.

So, we're not allowed to cuss or discuss mildly mature content because it's "Not safe for kids", but we can have a big (usually noise-making!) pop-up ad with malicious content that a young user may fall for? So that they can damage their parents computer? And make it to where their parents believe the game has a virus, and then don't let them play anymore?

If Feralheart were to remove this, I would be quite happy to turn off my adblock, but honestly this damages my trust for the website and the game. It's not cool.

I'll be sure to check  back up on this as well, and if you do eventually fix it then yes I'd love to know! I think if you provide the answer to your fix if/when fixed, then it could be locked up and other users can look here if they ever have this issue.

Update: I went ahead and got myself into the same situation in mapmaker to see what I could do. I went as far out as I could until I could no longer see the map, and I then clicked and dragged the pointer on the map in the top right corner and it sent me straight back to the map. If you can't see it, it's because you're looking forward. You just have to look down and you should be able to see your map and all that's on it.

Tried that already. Thing is, I'm stuck, and can't move at all. I'm a lot farther out than just not being able to see the map. It takes my character several minutes to fall back down

Ahh okay then, have fun though! But back on topic, I don't think those sessions would work either in that case as in 5 hours it's going to be past 6am for me. But I guess there is always a gap for others to suggest fixes! I think sleep for myself will actually give me a bit more focus on finding a fix or way around this problem. Also, if you select the 'Nuzzle' button (which more or less looks like a link) under someone's forum icon (only seen when someone has posted something), then that will add onto that person's Floof-O-Meter count.

Alright, thanks for responding and trying to help! I'll hop back on here in a couple hours and see if anyone else has tried to help find a solution :) If no solution has been found by then, though, I'll try and get back in contact with you, if you'd like. :)

Never mind, my thought/theory was wrong, it's just that I thought there would be some differences compared to a map I have on here already but they're pretty much the same other than map names. I thought, since I have no clue what LODMorphStart is, I thought it might have to do something in terms of camera spawn. I was wrong. Nevertheless, if you want, you could wrap up those map files (including your height and terrain files) into mediafire, and I could try and do something myself? See if I can rename things or even get it to work? That's if you feel you want to/can trust of course!

I would normally be okay with this, but I'm about to leave for the local theme park and I'll be there for another 4 or 5 hours, and usually, I'd probably be most comfortable doing this while in a join.me session or over skype, and I'm not sure if our schedules could handle that. Of course, I'll be on my phone for the next four hours and will be checking it often, but I'm not sure how much I'll be able to communicate.

Otherwise, if you're okay with doing a skype or join.me session of you trying to fix it in about 5 hours (it's 5:00 PM for me), I'd be willing to hop on with you to try and figure it out.

I'd also be down to give you a free drawing or something along those lines if you could manage to fix it for me? I'm not sure how the website's floof-o-meter works so I'm not sure if I'd be able to do that haha

There is a possibility... I think. I haven't tried it before myself, but, you CAN reach the details of your map in Local Disk (C:) // Feral Heart // Media // Terrains and you can find your map listed there. [mapname].map is the map 'build' itself, and the folder named as your map holds all the maps details. Maybe you can try copying the .map file and your  map's folder and try re-naming it? Keep in mind that you will need to rename the .cfg's and some things inside the .cfg's in the folder as well, as they will be named as your map's name (not display name), so you will need to rename it to a new/different map name. Like I said, never tired it before, but as far as I can see, as long as you rename your old map name in the folder and elsewhere, then it just feels logical that it should create a copy of the old map but with a different name of course.

I tried copying the folder, renaming it and renaming the files inside, but the "new map" didn't show up in-game at all, so I might do some more exploring with that to try and get it to work.

I actually want to ask of you if you could open up [mapname]Terrain.cfg and screenshot what's inside? I just saw something in there of a map on the computer I am using and it just caught my interest. I would like to check a theory I have, but I don't want to quite explain yet beforehand.

Here you go.

This sounds like it was stressful to deal with first hand... However, when you test, and you land in the corner, have you tried running to the center of your map? Once you've done that, try returning to the map making mode and see if that does return in the same position as the character did. If not, try again with the whole character to central map thing, and F3 THEN try going back to map making mode.

I tried this, and sadly enough, it did not return me to a workable spot on the map. Just took me right back up to being stuck somewhere in the sky.

By any chance, is there a way for me to copy my map files somewhere and make a copy of it? Could anyone provide a directory to find my map's files? And, would this harm any of my data? I'd really hate to have everything completely screwed over :(
