Title: The Old World (Literate, semi-realistic, mapped, Post-Apocalypse rp)

The Old World; that is a name that most of us who live here under the Spire call this wretched, hot, worn place. It is an ancient place that has been here long before us, and has seen the likes of many before us few survivors. Before us, there were the strange beings known as the Old Ones; powerful creatures who had the ability to create and destroy. Beings who are now long gone with nothing but mere remnants to tell of their presence here, remnants that give us very little answers. There is very little hope to be found here but in the Spire; that giant reaching structure left behind by the Old Ones long ago, and still yet lives on even long after their passing. It is proof that there is a forever, an eternity; that not all things are lost to the dust and sands of time, that one can reach the very sky if they only dream to achieve. It is because of this hope we gather at the Altar that overlooks it and admire, and pray that one day, we too will reach the skies in our passing and that maybe, just maybe, there is some peace to be had above those dusty clouds.
What is the Old World?
The Old World is the ruins of a city long ago abandoned by humans for unknown reasons. The place is a dust bowl and the sun has grown many times its size in the sky. There is no memory of what happened for things to get this way and no memory of humans beyond the ruins they left behind. The story revolves around the way things are here and now, and most importantly; survival.

This is home, truly a hellish landscape but not utterly barren as you will soon see.
[Skyscraper]The Spire is a true sight to behold, a column that reaches up to the sky, above the depression and gloom of the dust clouds. It is an idol of worship to all who live in The Old World, a beacon of hope that at the end of life, there is a place were all may have a peaceful rest.
[Bridge]The Altar is another sacred place, here battle and conflict is taboo; and claiming land is strictly forbidden. It is here that many gather to admire the Spire and pray, it is also one of few places where sanctuary can be found.
The Meeting Grounds is a place for those to meet up, either to simply talk, make agreements, or to seek out potential mates. It is a place of sanctuary but it is not uncommon for fights to break out. If one were in need of a place to hide from enemies, this is not it.
The Shelter is a place of sanctuary and of protection, here is where those in need of safety and protection come to hide from sandstorms, to recover from injury, to give birth and raise their young, or simply a place to rest if it is nearby. It is frowned upon to fight here, but also not entirely acceptable to take shelter and to take up room for those who may need it more if you yourself are not in need. Here, as in all places in the Old World, there is not much to go around and so it is agreed by most who live in this desert that the Shelter should be left for those in need.
The Rings is a strange place indeed; there are various large rings made of unknown material stacked up and scattered here. There is no clue as to its purpose if there ever was one. Many consider it an eerie and even haunted place, and will avoid it when they can. However, should there be a sudden freak sandstorm or angry aggressor; it is a good place to hide if no others are available.
Factions:
While there is a shared dogma of sorts in the Old World, there are truly no factions yet established here. It will be up to the players to make, or break, up alliances as they please. As such, territory claiming is allowed but prepared to have to fight for it and do not expect your group to keep it for long. It is best to treat the rp as if it really is a survival situation, where for the most part is is kill or be killed. With this in mind, do not complain to me if others are either in your territory, around your territory, or even trying to take it. It is part of the game and perfectly acceptable for them to do.
Rules and Guidelines will be in the next post.

Character Creation:
While I am not establishing any set species/race, I do have some guidelines when it comes to character creation and some rules.
Guidelines:
1) Please keep in mind what kind of animals would normally live in a desert; felines, canines, rodents, and even reptiles are all acceptable. Also keep in mind that most canines and felines are most likely descended from domesticated animals.
2) Also keep in mind that this is a desert and try to color your character as such; light sandy pelts are generally the norm in such a place unless of course you are a reptile, then it is okay to have a light base color and darker patterns. Mammals that are darker are not generally going to survive very long in the wild and are going to be rather rare in this setting.
3) You may use some items from item packs within reason. Please do not use accessories such as glasses, bracelets, and necklaces that typically a human would wear or would require opposable thumbs to even put on such as a collar would. Horns are acceptable for all animals but please do not use the more bizarre ones such as the ifrit horns as those are not something you would naturally find in the wild today. No bubbles, period. Consider that a rule.
4) It is highly recommended that your character be thin, although this is not something you must do. Just keep in mind the harsh conditions.
5) When it comes to naming, I do not mind naming them whatever you think of but please do keep in mind that if you are going to give them word names with words like tiger, raven, snow, ocean, crow, or other things that are not commonly found/do not exist in this setting, it will be very strange and out of place.

Rules:
1) Max height any character can be is the default medium size the game gives you when you start up; in this harsh environment it is not likely that your character would be able to get much larger than that.
2) No bubbles. Seriously. No. Bubbles.
3) Please, please, PLEASE no bright flashy neon colors! A bright flashy character will not be accepted even if you are lit so PLEASE, try to keep the colors realistic.
4) No wings. I have set it so flight is not allowed on this map so please do not put wings on your character.
5) Do not use any existing species of animal such as wolf, coyote, tiger, lion, or breed of animal such as tabby cat, Persian, border collie, or pug. They do not exist any more in this world so please don't use them. You may make descendants that look vaguely like them as long as they fit in the setting.
6) No superpowers or abilities please, nor will we be having demons, angels, or any other mythological creature. This includes dragons.

General Rules and Guidelines:
Guidelines:
1) Swearing, and mature subjects such as death, sex, disease, or other such thing is allowed within reason; please do not go overboard.
2) General chat will be used mainly for map-wide events like sandstorms and announcements. If you decide to use it for ooc please keep it to a minimum and please try to use it if you had something to address me about. It is recommended that ooc be done in whispers, group chat, or party chat.
3) Please try not to blend ic and ooc; just because two characters hate each other does not mean that the players are also enemies. You are not your character.
4) Try not to use any information that you know that your character has no real way of knowing in the rp; it is considered godmodding in a way and is frowned upon.
5) If someone is causing trouble, please come talk to me and I will see what I can do!

Rules:
1) Take any heated ooc arguments to whispers, I would appreciate if you did not have them in the public eye where it would annoy anyone else not involved.
2) While territory claiming is allowed, please do not bully others oocly about said territory. One of the aspects of the game is survival and that includes the taking and losing of territory. If I hear of you making a big stink about territory I will give you a warning before putting you on the ignore list.
3) DO NOT mate in public, if you must do it please do so in whispers. Ignoring this results in you being put in the ignore list.
4) Godmodding, or powerplaying, is a big no no. This includes not taking any hits in a fight, or writing it so that your hits automatically hit. "No miss no nothing" will not be tolerated or respected. Yes, this includes posts that instantly kill. If you see anyone powerplaying contact me immediately and I will talk to them personally before deciding whether or not they should be ignored.
Next post will have a list of downloads you will either need/or may want for a better experience.

The names of this list are names of people who have broken rules and should be put on your block list as they are excluded from the rp. If you are on this list but are unsure as to why, post your question here or send me a message in my inbox. If you are polite enough I may have you taken off.
Ignore List:
(No one as of yet, let us hope it stays this way!)

Character Back story: The survivor of a litter of four, Balaravi was taught by his mother that patience and kindness were the best ways to survive and to make it to that special place above the clouds when he had passed. Character Name: Vita

Character Age: Young adult/adolescent

Character Personality: Vita is a young and rebellious feline, but has a soft spot for those younger than her even by a day. She loves cubs and pups. Whenever she can, she will help, although she hates following directions and other things. When told to do things, she usually does the exact opposite, which is great when someone knows how to use reverse psychology. Overall, she is rebellious and soft.

Character Back story:
0-9 months
Vita was born in the place known as 'The Rings' to others. usually just called them circles, and still does. She never really knew that they were called 'The Rings.' Her mother killed some sort of desert bird, and when Vita started playing with the feathers, her mother picked them up (in her mouth e.e) and put them behind her ear, nestled in the fur. "Take these," she said, "and remember me." Vita didn't understand until she saw the huge dark cloud of sand when it was only a few lengths away. She tore after a Ring and hid under it while dragging the bird. Once it was over, her mother was nowhere to be found.
10-24 months
Vita was on her own. She knew she had to learn to hunt by herself. Before her mother died, she taught her about the landscape. 'The Meeting Place' sounded interesting and easy to find others. She went there and hid in some sand under a den-like object. Another animal was hunting there, so she decided to watch. When that animal caught a desert bird, Vita realized that it wasn't too easy to hunt. She struggled with it, and usually had to go hungry. When she caught her first lizard, she was ecstatic, and learned that everyone has their own style of hunting based on their personality, age, and species.

Ok there are a few problems with these applications; first off "Sword's" application;
1) The name is an issue, if you go up to the Character Creation Guidelines and read number five, I suggested against using word-names that included things that are not found in this setting. There are no swords to be found in the Old World therefore it would be impossible to have that name as it doesn't even exist.
2) I am afraid that the backstory is a requirement, if you are not going to make one you won't be accepted.
Now on to Ravi's app:
The only real issue here is again the Backstory; it is good to mention that event as it is important to the character's story, but you left out all the major events of her life before that. While it is true she has amnesia, everything that happened before still happened and needs to be in the backstory in order to be accepted.

Now a suggestion for you both is to try and add more details to the personality and backstory; I suggest reading my app and the app posted right below yours as her app is very good and has more details than mine did and is a very good example of a decent application. I also suggest brainstorming your characters some more before remaking your app, perhaps writing down a small summary of things you want to include; and I highly recommend rereading the first post and adding details from the map into your backstory too so it really feels as if your character lives here.

Character Name: Kofi Dumisani Afolayan

Character Age: Young Adult

Character Personality: You could call the little fellow a coward, or a genius. Your mileage may vary. However, Kofi generally avoids conflict. Or...people in general. He would like friends, but has always been taught by his mother that one should always look out for themselves before others, and groups usually cause trouble. At the first sign of a situation turning painful or stressful to him, he flees, which is why having a mate and close friends is difficult for him. However, he is very smart, and very resourceful. After all...he's still alive, isn't he? He can be playful and teasing, but usually only offers forth a jaded, sardonic persona, meant to drive off people. After all...there's not much hope, is there? One can only hope to live as long as he can, and keep his belly as full as possible. When it comes to paranoia, Kofi doesn't even tell people he meets his real name, until the odd chance occurs that he opens his heart to someone. He has the awful habit of watching various inhabitants of the Old World, leading to his self inflicted alias, "Paki", or "Witness"

Character Back story: As a pup, Kofi was raised only by his mother. His father had left to take care of himself long before. Not because he and Kofi's mother had problems...it has always just been easier to survive only taking care of one's self. He came by every now and then to see how his love and his son kept up, but only brought the occasional piece of prey to his new family. Kofi had always looked up to this strong, independent brute, and therefore, copied his example. At the age of eleven months and six days, he gave his mother an affectionate lick, and left to strike out on his own.

Did you put "Dusty.fhw" into exports? I would double check to make sure it is in there and if it is and if it is still not working then I will send you a link of the custom particle I used for the weather. Maybe having those files will make it work.

I did indeed put it into Exports. I even made sure I put it in there the first time the error occurred, and it said I could copy the file. Would you send me the particles? I'm sure that'd be a big help, thank you for your time! ^w^

Character Personality: Amara is a kind feline, who could not commit a wrong deed even if she wanted to.  Although she is kind, if she or anyone she loves is threatened, she can be a vicious creature.  She is very tough, and will not complain of discomfort or injury, unless it is very serious.

Character Back story: She was born with two sisters and a brother.  When she was about 2 months old, she was stolen from her mother by another creature, it's intentions unknown.  By nightfall of the that day, the creature mad a mysterious disappearance and Amara was left by herself.  She took cover under a rock that night and wailed for her mother to come rescue her, but nobody came.  She then scavenged for food until she taught herself how to hunt.  She fought for survival until she became full grown, and now has become a formidable predator, hardened by the toughness of fending for herself.  She still looks for her family to this day.

Picture and Description: (my computer is being weird, and not letting me post a picture, so i'll provide a detailed description for you.)  Amara has a light sandy colored pelt, with dark brown stripes down her sides.  Her face has deep green eyes, and dark brown stripes that frame them.  She is a medium sized feline that is very thin, but has much muscle.  No mane or tufts of fur.

This is a good app, but there is a little detail that confuses me; in the personality section you say "Amara is a kind feline, who could not commit a wrong deed even if she wanted to.", but in the backstory you also say "She fought for survival until she became full grown, and now has become a formidable predator, hardened by the toughness of fending for herself." It just seems that these two bits of information are in conflict with eachother and I was wondering if you could give me some clarification on it.

I can see how you got confused, I'll try to clarify :) for instance, she sees another creature that she does not know or recognize.  She does not attack, but makes an attempt to greet the creature and make friends.  If the creature is threatening or attacks her first, she then turns into that predator that can defend herself.  She is never one to just attack, unless there is good reason.  She always tries to give the other creature a chance to prove it is not a threat. She would never kill in cold blood sort of thing.  Does that make better sense?

Bumping for even more justice! And to let everyone know that I am working on a secret! It will be deployed if, IF mind you, I get at least ten people on this map, not including myself and my sister!

Character Name: Swift

Character Age: young adult

Character Personality: Swift has seemingly impenetrable self confidence, acting proud and assured even in the most dire situations. She tends to demand the spotlight, so to speak, and often acts out to get attention. She is desperately afraid of being alone.

Character Back story: (Careful, I was apparently in a writing mood. Also, due to the fact that all I know about the landscape is that which I've seen in the screenshots, events in the backstory may not be plausible/possible.)

Swift was made to leave home at a young age, traveling with her sister, Fleet. The two were almost inseparable, and swift quickly acclimated to having someone who was always nearby.
To the two of them (Who had never left the den before) even this wasteland seemed like a wondrous place. As they traveled, between hunting and running from predators, they vowed to experience every wonder left behind by the old ones.

It was one fateful day that they arrived at the spire. Crouched in the shadow of the awe-inspiring structure, they did not notice that danger lurked nearby. The canine ran at them, and the sisters fled to the only place that they could find; the spire itself. They were cornered at the base of the massive and dust eroded structure, facing death at the hands of a creature that was so desperately in need of food that it would attack, even when it was outnumbered.

Where the spire jutted out of the earth, was flat, and with nowhere else to go, the sisters struggled to climb the impossibly smooth surface. Unable to climb further, for fear of chocking on the low dust clouds, and with their attacker right below them, Fleet lept at the attacking canine. The force of her attack sent both her and the attacker tumbling down the massive structure. THe frightened Swift remained in her precarious position until night fell, unable to bring herself to face what must surely be a grisly sight below.

As she tried to climb down the slick side of the spire, she slipped, slicing her leg open as she slid down toward the earth. As Swift limped slowly away from the spire, she looked for Fleet, and for their attacker. She found them, some feet away, illuminated by the light of the full moon. Swift felt a sudden crushing loneliness, for as soon as she looked upon her sister's broken body, it was clear that swift was on her own.

Now, swift fears isolation, and hates to travel alone. The spire is no longer a place of hope, but a place of sorrow and loss. Despite this, Swift returns to the alter every full moon to pray for the departed Fleet, and any others that have been lost to the wasteland.

Picture and Description:  Swift has a pelt that is the color of the desert ground, with few remarkable features. Her sharp, backward facing ears, are well adapted to the frequent dust storms that plague the land, as they are able to fold tightly against her head so that dust cannot get in as easily. She also has long legs, and a thick tail to aid her when running, and she relies on her speed, both to hunt and to escape. There is a long scar on her front left leg (the one in the picture) that runs from the bottom of her paw to the elbow.

Character Name:

Adonis

Character Age:

Young Adult - 4 years and 3 months of age.

Character Personality:

Adonis is solitary; he prefers to be on his own, and large groups make him somewhat uncomfortable. However, he does sometimes enjoy the company, and he doesn't like to be totally alone. The presence of one or two other creatures is fine by him, so long as he isn't crowded. He has a very kind heart, especially to those younger than him, but he can be a fierce opponent in battle, being quick, agile and clever. He can often be seen taking in orphans and raising them until they can provide for themselves, or at least leading them to a mother with milk. You could say that he is a sort of Robin Hood in the world of animals, but not to the extremities of causing trouble. He also tends to brood, which makes him very thoughtful, but the doing of a bad deed fills him with a powerful guilt that eats at him.

Character Back story:

0-6 months

Adonis was born near 'The Spire', and was the first of a litter of five. He was the only wolf with a light-grey base pelt, and so his parents, Spark and Feather, deemed him sacred, a ray of hope in a dark and desolate world, giving him the name Adonis after the greek god of beauty and desire, who's circle of life, death and rebirth signified the new world. However, the pups had been birthed early, on their mother and father's way to Sanctuary, where they planned to birth and raise the pups. The last of the litter was born dead. Desperate to protect their remaining children, Spark and Feather managed to carry their small, wolf-like offspring to the place they seeked, though another pup had been lost on the long, hard journey.

Spark provided as best he could for his family; he navigated the crumpled buildings to find the safest, most hard to reach rooms, caught rats, lizards and scruffy birds for his mate, and warded off those trying to harm his children. But when Adonis, his sister and remaining brother, were of age to be weaned, Spark found it increasingly harder and harder to find enough food for his growing 'pack', and took to letting Feather and his children eat first. He later died of starvation.

Feather, distraught by the sudden passing of her mate, was forced to move to a less protected location, on the outskirts of the building they had taken up residence in. However, the lonely fae could not provide for her family on her own, and, after giving them several hunting lessons and other important lectures, left her pups with a broken heart.

7-12

Adonis, Elena and Radja all stuck very close to each other once their mother left. They would take turns hunting and gathering water, and one would always stay up at night to guard. Life was hard for the younglings, but an elderly canine and his feline companion often watched over them and sometimes even gave them food. But soon, even these two left the fast-growing siblings to fend for themselves.

Radja was the first to leave, after becoming fast friends with a fae and her family. When they announced they were moving elsewhere, he went with them, after saying his goodbyes to his siblings. They never saw him again, but he often sent word to them so alert them that he was okay.

Adonis and Elena decided to stay in sanctuary, at least until they were big enough to fend for themselves, but it was evident that Adonis, though close to his sister, was growing weary of her company. He would often sleep in an abandoned corner of the room, or leave for long hunting trips. On their twelfth month of life, the two split off; Elena with a feline friend and Adonis by himself.

13-Present

Adonis became rather solitary, though he watches over other animals and often attempts to help them. His light pelt helped him to keep as cool as possible in the unforgiving heat, and he learned to use certain desert herbs for healing.

Picture and Description:

Adonis can be described as gangly, tall yet lean, but he's almost always considered handsome by those he meets. He has a darker muzzle, with a white chin and two lines leading down from the corners of his mouth. His torso darkens as it gets closer to his rump, and fades to a darker grey before lightening to the original colour at his lower legs. His tail is light grey, almost white, with a white tip. His front toes are white, as is his underbelly and chest, though it is hard to see. He has a white star shape on his forehead. His eyes are a deep and beautiful chocolate brown.

This is a great application; I only have one tiny suggestion but you don't have to do it if you don't want to. Simply, I would suggest adding a slight redness to his pelt so it looks like he belongs in the desert. Other than that, this is a good character and I will send you the password.

Character Name
Aria

Character Age
Young Adult

Character Personality
Survival is about adaptation, where you don't have the physicality then your mentality is key. Caution could be the difference between life and death, eating or not, or acquainting yourself with friend or foe. Far from asocial or shy, Aria is simply cautious and takes the time to analyse another before deciding to approach. She is not outgoing, nor is she withdrawn, but rather a comfortable medium; being polite, positive, yet practical with a steady grasp upon reality. She would rather avoid hostile situations, but is far from beyond holding her own if cornered or whenever necessity beckons.

Character Back Story
Aria was born to a medium litter of three, as a middle pup, to a mother of whom was too worn to survive their birth. As per the other creatures of this land, she was born tailored for survival where others had failed. However, odds were against her as she was the only of the three to never gain her sense of sight. With the scarce food resources, competition was an issue from the moment the litter were able to stomach solids -- her father was far from irresponsible, but with small returned kills to feed a family, there would be sibling scuffles in the rush to fill their bellies and often some would be left without.

So, she learned to anticipate.

She would focus to catch a familiar scent approaching, to hear the sound of paws trotting near, long before her siblings. She would intercept her parent before he reached home, and take her fill. By the time she was old enough to hunt for herself, she was accustomed to the smell of death from returning prey. Scavenging was very slim picking, a popular choice for desperate creatures, she occasionally was able to catch the scent early enough for scraps. Otherwise, her attuned nose could detect impending death in sickly creatures, or catch the spike of blood in the breeze from a wound. Waiting and stalking was practical, but often that would take days, so picking and choosing when to risk attacking was akin to flipping a coin with the risk of starvation.

Aria and her family have long since taken separate roads, and sheer instinct and adaptation has kept the canine very much alive.

I've been gone awhile. Sorry 'bout that :/

Anything interesting happen while I was gone?

(Also, can I write an application for a second character, so I have some variety?)

Not much has happened in game sadly, but we have been getting new members slowly but surely! Also yes you -may- make another app; but I think I will limit it to two characters per person withtheexceptionofmyselfofcourseforIamgod.

As a D&D player, you have no idea how much I respect that rule.

Character Age: Young adult

Character Appearance/Backstory/Personality: (I'm just going to roll it all into one thing)

(A quick sketch of Rot)(http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/vv58/Dracknora/1322fc5d-1bb6-43cd-a4d6-d744fdaaf25f_zpsa63170fb.jpg) (http://s669.photobucket.com/user/Dracknora/media/1322fc5d-1bb6-43cd-a4d6-d744fdaaf25f_zpsa63170fb.jpg.html)

At first glance, Rot is hardly distinguishable from a large desert reptile. His kind are descendants of the vultures, and have kept their keen senses.
His large yellow eyes glow slightly in the shade, and his dry, scaly skin is bare, save for a few feathery tufts of greyish plumage. He is shifty, and small. He often stands upon his birdlike hind feet to look around, and scan the air with a keen sense of smell derived from his ancestors. His front arms have two fingers, one is a short grasper like finger with a claw, and the other is a long wing-finger with a long sharp talon.
He perches near a feline, hissing and squawking, harassing the sickly creature. Try as it may, it could neither shake nor discourage him.  Many see Rot's species as bad omens, as they seem to bring death along with them. Being stalked by one, is a sure sign that death will soon be at your heels.

Rot is truly a shifty and crafty creature. He is small, and not adapted to hunting for food. He is well equipped to seek out the dead, the dying, and the helpless. He treats scavenging as a way of life. Food is almost his only concern, and he will do anything to fill his stomach. Rot is a good speaker, always willing to make a deal with those that would approach him, and always sure that things will work out in his favor. He is ruthless however. He knows not the concept of mercy, and has no sympathy for the weak. If you are not stronger than him, you are below him, food, and nothing more.

This vicious struggle for survival when he and his five nestmates hatched in an underground nest beneath one of the structures in the hangout.
Immediately, the stronger chicks devoured their weaker siblings. So, with only three left alive, they made their way to the surface. Their mother carefully picked them up and carried them to safety. One sibling was accidently killed by the mother's sharp beak. The two remaining chicks were allowed to live in their mother's territory for only a few weeks before they were chased out, and never met again.
From then on, life had only been a struggle to survive. Rot saw fear in the faces of those that believed him an omen, and has learned to manipulate that fear at times.

Holy crap I love that sketch! A very cool design too; inspired by transitional dinosaur-birds perhaps? However, mind giving me a brief rundown of backstory and personality? I understand that the first time around those things were mostly a test of literacy and creativity; but I would like to know just a bit about this one too in the event that I get enough people to try and do world events -cough-.

Whispered! It's a bit of a pain that the PM system's messing up the way it is, but it can't be helped.

Now lets all try to be on at once! Timezones, bleh.

I'll be hanging around though, in case someone shows up.

Is everyone dead? I still get on, but nobody's ever around.
