Game Discussion / Re: Weirdest SB arguments?
« on: April 10, 2015, 04:25:50 am »
I think-... I saw the 'weeb' argument, or at least one of them. Whoops.

Otherwise, the worst I've seen was someone arguing that roleplay's a waste of time while they, themselves, were wasting time on an online sandbox game. To add fuel onto the fire, it was FH's first official roleplay day. It was downright bizarre.

Game Discussion / Re: Main Characters
« on: April 10, 2015, 04:16:12 am »
Mine started out in a wee project I did for a monument back in 2008. It was basically meant to represent the balance between life and death-- and I, being the fish I am, went with SKULLS SKULLS SKULLS whilst my classmates opted for more sensible items: flowers and plants. After buying a shedload of resin skull casts from ebay to use as references, work proceeded:

In the end, it completely dissolved into skulls with fuzzy ears I was 17 I had no idea what I was doing. Even so, the idea stuck with me; I kept drawing skulls. Eventually, those skulls grew fuzzy bodies to match their fuzzy ears. The fuzzy character with a not-so-fuzzy skull head eventually grew a personality, species, name and history. It was called 'Crookfish' after one of the bendy goldfish we kept in the art room and it stuck.

His incarnation on FH looks a little different, but they're one and the same. I've used the game to further develop his personality and characterization via roleplay; it's been a fantastic asset! One day, I''ll finally make a preset for the wee guy.

Game Discussion / Re: Bad Habits on Feral-Heart
« on: April 10, 2015, 03:31:30 am »
My worst habit is accidentally leaving myself logged into FH while I'm off working or busying around alt-tab. I've often came back to missed whispers-- which has admittedly lead to a bit of 'why are you ignoring me' friction between my friends. Luckily, most tend to quickly catch onto my vanishing act!

Otherwise, leaving groups and constant group-hopping is another awful habit. It's very rare for me to feel comfortable and welcome within one-- they tend to get a bit overwhelming. I desperately wish I could mesh with them!

Game Discussion / Re: How Do You Write Your Bios?
« on: April 05, 2015, 04:45:29 pm »
I generally just opt for name, species, gender and presets/artwork before writing a few paragraphs of description about their appearance or personality. I leave history entirely out of the biography; I'd rather people found it out themselves through IC interaction. Similarly, family ties, love interests and such can be left to be discovered-- I always prefer to have some mystery about the character rather than having everything about them, from favourite colour to grandma, listed in their biography. Website profiles are definitely more suited for an information overload; if I'm there, I'm interested and want to know everything about them!

In short, I usually just keep it to anything your character would be able to see upon looking at mine-- I don't feel any other information's necessary for my own roleplay.

Species / Re: Dryphons [Dragon/Kirin/Gryphon Hybrid]

Lovely species, and even lovelier design. Really like what you've got so far!

I've also seen you recruiting around Flourite and I really wish you all the best with the group; it's so refreshing to see a fantasy-orientated roleplay popping by. If I've ever the time when I see you around, I'll be certain to drop an application over!

(I dearly hope I haven't mistaken you for someone else. Apologies if I have!)

Discussion Board / Re: What did you do on April Fools Day?
« on: April 03, 2015, 05:01:40 am »
My pranks on other games wouldn't make much sense here, but on Feralheart I had a bit too much fun.

I hunted down each and every online friend and bombarded them with an advertisement for my latest group: Bloodbloodblood demon fang Pack. I was honestly surprised when some of them played along and made characters for itThe tumblr post I used for advertisement is here!

Quote
Bloodbloodblood demon fang Pack is recruitng DEMON WOLFS literate 500 members bigest group on feral heat mapped ploted please join!! xD UNLEESH YOU'RE DEMON WITHIN!! :3

My friends all made the edgiest characters possible:

We all had fun!

A few genuine younger roleplayers accidentally ended up in the group, but everyone had a laugh and nobody was harmed, interrupted or harassed during our wee spat around Bonfire and Flourite (except me being on the receiving end of some cruel whispers). Grievances aside, I was surprised it went so well!

Forum Discussion / Re: Ever go back and read your old posts?
« on: April 03, 2015, 04:45:36 am »
A lot of my posts accidentally come out haughty and pretentious whether they're old or new! I glanced through my history a few times for links, but the cringe was too much-... And it's only been two years. Help.

In regards to Hylocereus' post, YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL. SCREAMS.

I really, really regret being given access to the internet when I was 11. My fanfiction, fanartcentral and deviantart accounts are still there for all the world to see-- and laugh at. A friend did a dramatic reading of my old deviantart journals from early 2003 and I was crying. I'm thanking my lucky stars I found this community in my 20s; I've had the chance to grow out my lol!SO RANDUM xD phase.

Game Discussion / Re: No updates?

Unfortunately, you can't exactly make a new source code without redoing the entirety of the game from scratch afaik. It's definitely doable with a team of seasoned programmers (or one very knowledgeable and patient person!), but the game created likely wouldn't be feralheart as you know it.

Even if it was released, programmers usually have their own style of coding-- which sometimes makes adding or altering things difficult for anyone except its original author.

Game Help / Re: Adfly and why it's bad
« on: March 30, 2015, 07:04:06 pm »
I do feel adfly's a bit so-so in terms of security-- but a fair source of revenue for server costs. It's a bit worrying how many malicious adverts get through; most I've seen during my accidental clicks were explicit or a bit dubious in nature. Then again, the worst malware I've received was from deviantART; all sites have the potential to throw up dangerous advertisements, no matter how reputable they are! It's just the nature of the 'net.

It's definitely a legit site that's frequently used across many, many forums-- but it undeniably does have the potential to pose some security risks; it's very easy for something malicious to sneak by. Clicking on one of the adverts pretty much guarantees your computer's demise (or a link to a very dodgy survey), too! I'd rather there was a donation button, but that's just me!

I'd suggest either avoiding the links, or using some from of anti-script browser addon (I use ScriptSafe for Chrome) in conjunction with AdBlock when it's necessary to click on one. It's a frequently, oft-used war to generate money, but similar to all sites, not all advertisements are safe.
