Game Help / Presetsync confusion!
« on: June 20, 2017, 11:50:30 am »
https://feral-heart.com/smf/index.php?topic=39858
This link leads to a post about shrinking your preset.
I have, (alongside a few other friends), failed to upload the presets to presetsync so they could be seen by others. It shows that the upload worked, but it isn't visible for others who have presetsync! Why?
Do i have to shrink the preset or? I see it on my screen, i see my friend's preset.. But they don't see the one i wear!
What do i do? Please help

Okay so since I know that you use GIMP, just follow these steps carefully:

Step 1.
First you want to go to 'File' then 'Open'.

Once you have done that, a window will appear. You then must locate fmaneMask.png as shown below. Do find this, you need to go to Local Disk (C:) \\ Feral Heart \\ Media \\ Textures.

Step 2.
After you have opened fmaneMask.png, go to 'File' then 'Open as Layers'

Open up fmaneShade.jpg, as shown to you below.

Once you have done that, you should see the following:

Step 3.
As you can see, the image is too big, if this is the same for you then you need to re-size it by right clicking the mane texture layer and selecting 'Scale Layer'.

You should then adjust the size by changing the Width and the Height to 512 x 512 px. Click 'Scale' and the size of the image will be adjusted for you, as shown below.

Step 4.
Next, you want to hide the fmaneShade.jpg (fur texture) layer by clicking the little eye icon on the left of the layer. Then you need to select the fmaneMask.png layer and click on the 'Lock Alpha Channel' icon. Then simply colour in your mane in without worrying about colouring over where you shouldn't (the transparent/alpha channel area), as executed in the image below.

Step 5.
Once your mane is coloured in, unhide the fmaneShade.jpg (fur texture) layer by clicking on the eye icon again, and choose the 'Multiply' option from the Mode drop box, as shown below.

As you can see, it overlaps the transparency/apha channel area. All you need to do is erase the triangle areas on the fmaneShade.jpg layer. An easier way to do this is by selecting the fmaneMask.png layer, and then select the 'Fuzzy Selection Tool' (I just call it a selection wand), and then select the triangle areas with it as shown below. To select more than one triangle at the same time, hold shift as you click and select, as shown below.

Once the areas are selected, using the method provided above, select the fmaneShade.jpg layer once again and hit CTRL + X at the same time, to erase/remove the selected areas. This is shown in the image below.

Now, the texture is gone, but you can still see the colour, all you need to do is right click on the fmaneShade.jpg layer and select 'Add Alpha Channel', as shown in the first image. It will then look like what is shown in the second image.

Step 6.
Once Step 5 has been completed, go to 'File' then 'Export' and save it as 'preset_#mane.png'. Be sure to replace the # with the number of the preset folder you are using. Once you have done that, simply hit 'Export' to save.

Step 7.
Finally, you need to open up your preset's material file. In this case, I am using preset 9. Make sure that you're using the following mane coding, and that the texture name is the same as the images. For example, we saved the mane as preset_9mane.png, so the name of the texture in the material coding should also be preset_9mane.png, as displayed below.

But of course, remember that we might not be using the same preset folder, so you should rename the number to whatever preset folder you are using. If the mane coding isn't the same in your material file, then replace the mane coding with this:

Quote
material preset_#_maneMat
{
        technique
        {
                pass
                {
                        cull_hardware none
                        cull_software none
                        alpha_rejection greater_equal 128
                        texture_unit
                        {
                                texture preset_#mane.png
                        }
                }
        }
}

Again, be sure to replace the # with whatever preset folder number you are using. Once you have done that, press CTRL + S to save the changes made to the material, or go to 'File' then 'Save' if you want to do it the longer way.

Step 8.
Once all that is done and dusted, you can then launch FH and view your mane! Please ignore the odd texture on the character, as a mane was only created to demonstrate here.

As for the preset sync help, look below:

Preset Uploader & Preset Sync.

In summary, the Preset Uploader transfers/uploads your character's preset(s) to the Preset Sync.

The Preset Sync was created by Razmirz to provide users with an easy-to-use method that allows users to see each other's presets, without you having to download them manually. Please note that you must have the Preset Sync installed in order to see the presets of those who have uploaded through this method. They do not automatically get uploaded to the game without it. Users MUST have upload their preset(s) through this method in order for you to see their preset(s), and vice versa. If you have done both, and you cannot see the other user's preset, then you must relaunch the game as a 'refresh'.

Everything you need to know on how to install the Preset Sync can be found in the actual thread linked above. I must encourage that any other help related questions and/or issues regarding the Preset Sync must please be asked in the Game Help Boards. Alternatively, if you're quite shy, you can ask anyone through Private Messaging who you know/think can help you. Any issues that you might spot or encounter regarding the Preset Sync itself must be addressed on the thread, or to Razmirz personally for further investigation. Feedback is welcomed on the thread itself as well!

Your preset must be the maximum size of 2MB to be uploaded. If your preset exceeds the maximum file size, you can learn how to shrink your preset here. Also, please keep in mind that if you are inactive in-game for a month, your preset will be automatically removed from the Preset Sync. But do not worry, you can just re-upload it through the same Preset Uploader method.

The part that stops me(due to noobidity/i know its not a word...)
Is that nothing showed up once i opened it as a layer(fmaneshade i think).
Once that layer box showed up, and that box showed up to the left, i X-ed them. How do i make them re-appear, since i see you're using them. And without them i see no way to countinue your amazing step by step explaination! (which i really incredibly thank you for)
How do i take up the toolbox thing on the left and the layers on the right? (X-ed them as i said)
Im pretty sure i can manage if i just knew that single thing!

Well I'm really not sure what the problem is. :I

You could try and wait until a Moderator/Admin comes along as they will most likely be able to help you better than I can.

Well, the problem is that... I cannot make this show as a mane... What am i not understanding?
Feral heart doesn't look upon it as a mane, and will never show the color i want xc

No codes, just gimp.
It shows half side mane, not full side mane.
It looks really poor, meaning wery thin on hair to make it look like a mane.
If you click at preset_1 and take on a full side mane, it is how it looks like xc
It's most likely because you're using the wrong mane texture.

This is the one you need to use:

And then you use this code to make it look solid and not transparent: (Remember to change the # to the preset file.)

Code: [Select]
    material preset_#_maneMat
    {
            technique
            {
                    pass
                    {
                            cull_hardware none
                            cull_software none
                            alpha_rejection greater_equal 128
                            texture_unit
                            {
                                    texture preset_#mane.png
                            }
                    }
            }
    }

If this isn't what you're looking for, then please tell us!

how do i find it? Or rather... Use it?
