I also have steam, it has a tonnn of games and has great Christmas sales, so whats wrong with it? Its a good way to buy games if you want to buy legally without hassles.
Also, as far as the update/download speeds go, the speed of downloads/updates depends on your internet speeds. If you have long downloading times its because your internet sucks. I have great internet and get great times on steam. I usually average around 2.5 mb/s .
I dont play tf2 though. Mostly because im such a huge carebear. No PVP for me! XD It seems like a really fun team game though!
