custom map help

i made my first custom map, and i put the files in the export folder, the portal appears in the cape  of distant worlds, but it doesnt have a name and it says cannot find map file.  i looked at a tutorial, and it confused me a bit. I was wondering if anyone could help me, I would really appreciate it. :)

Did you export your map before putting the file into the exports folder?

wait, even if its your own map, do you still put the files in the right place, like sky files in the sky folder? or just leave them in exports?
