Gateway Questions. (SOLVED.)

So...
I'm making a Cave Story Roleplay and I want to know how you link maps together; like a portal in a First Cave map that goes to Mimiga Village and so on.

Basically; I want to know how gateways work and how they can be placed in other maps.
A little help here? ;-;
