Internet bullying.
« on: October 04, 2011, 05:42:54 am »
On another website I noticed a user had made an offensive post about another user, who had apparently taken offense to something said and blocked him. The blocked user had some pretty rude things to say, and got a lot of people gathered bashing the other guy who had simply blocked someone they didn't like. I didn't know much about what happened, but bash threads are very rude so I said something, so the person being bullied wouldn't have to feel the world was against him.

Well, of course, I should have kept my mouth shut .I have taken the guys place as the subject of bullying. So far they are making fun of me for terming "block" as "Banned from my account". I am not really paying too much attention to it, but it is tough to believe people out there can be so cruel. Usually sticking up for the victim builds courage for other people to support as well, but in the case I've gotten myself in a bit of a tight spot, lol. Despite this I will continue to stick up for users being bullied on these sites, even if it means taking on some of the trouble myself.

I mean, no matter how pathetic they call me, I am not at the level where I can call someone "stupid" for an honest typo.

How about you? Have you ever been bullied, or seen bullying on a website? How do you react? Perhaps together we can figure out a better way to resolve problems like this, so that other people don't have to feel bad for the way they type, speak, draw, play or in general, create.

*edit* The other user made a bash thread about me, and someone stood up for me. Awwwww.

I was harrassed/bullied on another website over trivial matters which I won't elaborate on because I don't know if said users also come onto this forum. Basically it drove me out of said site/game because of their behaviour and my tolerance for it was used up. This was about two years ago maybe a bit less.
I've put it behind me but some people still at ANY given chance will find me and still stab at me with it. Yep still after all that time :\ I hate it.

I tried reasoning, talking rationally, discussing etc with people but in the end they were so hellbent on their opinion they never listened, it was ridiculous.

Personally, I don't think there's any way to resolve problems like these, especially if the people who harrass you are too immature to listen or forgive and forget.

It isn't worth dealing with people who aren't willing to or don't change.

Well, my situation, a few people just stood up for me and when a majority was against him he got much nicer very quickly, but what about the events where nobody will help you?

I think perhaps we need more people willing to stick up for others.

I know on Deviantart a lot of young artists are driven out because of harsh people, it's so sad to see.

I like that the FH forum is a pretty tight knit group, I don't see much bullying going on that isn't shut down (but maybe I'm sheltered), but on sites like Gaiaonline and Deviantart where it can take over a week for a report to process, it can be harsh.

Some peeps are just trolls.  Odds are they just want attention, they're facing problems in their own life, they're jealous, or some other personal disturbance on their end.  And other times it could be a personal battle based upon a bad history with the victim.  I know it might be second nature to stand up for someone in trouble.  But isn't it sometimes good for someone to learn to stand for themselves?

It really depends on the circumstance. In some cases all people need to feel confident enough to stand up for themselves is the knowledge that other believe they are in the right and will stick up for them. Not everyone has a strong mind. I can handle this kind of bullying, as I don't take it seriously, but other people may feel they are not welcome, are stupid or aren't good enough, especially if it is a large group attacking them.

I hate that people bully others on the internet.
I heard about a girl that got bullied on the internet.
There was a guy that wrote to her that no one liked her and other rude stuff.
Guess what she did? She took suicide because of what he said...
Its really sad what people can do on the internet..

Young artists got harassed by people on DeviantArt?
Thats just sad .-.
People can be so rude..

Some persons has been rude to me on the internet..
Not so much now anymore but when I was around 10 and 11 years old.

When I first started the internet, I was bullied quiet a lot. But I was lucky enough to have the mods as friends, so they helped me out.

But often, I am stuck with no help. I try to ignore, but in real life I am a fragile girl. I do feed the trolls, because sometimes I can't. But often, I can stick up and normally go: "Aww look at the 'ickle troll boo! So pathetic <3"

I try to stand up with people. I am a likeable person (I hope) and normally have friends to help protect victims. I find, if you troll them in a nice way they leave you alone.

I think that when people bully you on the internet, it's not really a big deal. You can easily ignore it, block them or leave the site they are on. But if it's someone who you know IRL who is bullying you online, that is a different story.

Internet Bullies = Cowards

I mean...if you can't say it in face, why say it online?
