Transparent Background
« on: October 06, 2011, 10:16:31 pm »
I'm trying to learn how to make presets with glowing markings, and I found a guide on the forum. but I need to make a pic on gimp with a transparent background, how do I do that?

I'm afraid I wont be of much help here since I use photoshop.

But in Ps you can create a new image, then convert the background layer into a smart object which lets you erase the solid background. 1 layer png images does also in most cases let you erase and create transparency directly.

I'm very certain that if you don't find it by clicking around inside of gimp, someone else will be able to tell.

Have you tried oh so wonderful google? Should have the answer xD

Create a new layer and then right click it.
You should see an option saying 'Add Alpha Channel'
Once you click that, take the eraser tool and erase all that you want to be transparent.
You should see squares/a grid in the background. :3

Or you can try this:

Create a new layer.

Then click "Transparent" and "Ok".

Delete your first layer.

This is what you get.

Hope it helps! 8D

That's when you create and draw on a new layer. o3o
[make sure the new layer fill type is set to transparency.]
