map making
« on: October 16, 2011, 01:28:16 pm »
Hi everyone, I have a problem with my map.

I made it today, and everything works for me. The portal to Cape of Distant Worlds works fine. I had a test person to test my map for me, and the portal appeared. We went through, and I showed the person the dens. Apperently the person couldn't see the dens. Does anyone know how I can solve this?

Could the person see all of the other objects?

No, they said there were just hills and water and nothing else.

You should try to re-export the map again and make sure you send them "all" the exported files in your exports folder for that map.

Get them to delete the old exports, replace with the new exported ones.

Possibilities that this person didn't paste them correctly or one of the exported files were missing.

When I click "Export" it says: Failed to export map. What do I do?

I'm not sure actually since the game just tells you it were unable to export it, not why.

I'd say get rid of any custom things such as custom objects within a map, billboards maybe?

Anything that could've been moved or that isn't in the game from the start, then try to export it again.

Okay,  I will do that thanks. Maybe the problem is that I edited WaterMill, instead of starting with a blank map. Could that be the reason why I'm unable to export it?

Editing watermill is never a good call, creating a completely new map is the way to go.

It might be a reason, but it could always be something else.

The problem was that I didn't know how to make rivers and such. And WaterMill looked cool to me. I was lazy. Haha.

Aye.. I understand, however, these rivers is actually just the ocean plane in watermills case.

Click the box that says "ocean" inside of the map maker, and then set the value beside it of how high the water should reach, should be rather easy to spot.
