she twitched her ears at his quiet murmuring and frowned. She looked over at him and noticed his gaze suddenly shift to the stars. "I always liked looking at the stars... I was always told that the noble lioness who gave her life gazes down upon us, her kin, and protects us from enslavement... I've never believed in folk lure, but I always feel safer at night..." she said, rambling. Smiling she looked over to Ragnar, and nudged him with her tanned paw "thank you... For the company..." she said lightly, pushing her bangs out of her golden brown eyes. It was nice to know that he wasn't as bad as she thought he was. Maybe by the end of the night she could call him a friend, at least she hoped so.

Ragnar gave his crooked grin and looked at those captivating amber eyes. "You're welcome," he purred, then shifted his gaze back to the stars. He thought a few moments, then he closed his eyes. He thought some more, almost to the point that it looked like he had fallen asleep, and then he said quietly, "They all aren't just folk lore, Anock."

He open his eyes again, and he looked at her with unblinking eyes. He spoke again, almost a whisper. "Remind me to show you something in the morning." He then flipped onto his side, his stomach facing her, and closed his eyes.

Anock nodded "I know...." she said lightly. She looked over to him as he turned to his side and smiled "alright..." and with that she rolled to her bellow, her gaze still fixed upon the stars. She smiled half heartedly as the golden orange moon made teh land glisten and glow erriley. "Someday i will find you, mom...dad..... Someday..." she trailed off as her eyelids began to shut. It was the first in a long while that she was groggy at night, maybe it was because of the nights events, or maybe it was because for once in her life, she didnt feel so alone.

Ragnar heard her last words, but did not open his eyes. He didn't have the heart to tell her they were probably dead. He soon fell asleep, his breathing slow and rhythmic. It was nice to share the hollow tree with someone else. At least it wasn't cold.

Anock awoke with a start, her breathing heavy, mane clinging to her face in sweat. Shoe looked over at Ragnar, who still appeared to be sleeping. she slowly got up trying not to bump into him and disturb his rest. She managed to crawl out of the hollow without touching him, and padded off towards the hunting grounds to take a morning dip. She reached the water, steam rising from it's surface. Slowly placing paws gently onto the bank, she slipped into the water, covering it's surface with crystal ripples. She paddled and dove to the bottom, kicking at weeds and rocks as she did so. After a while, she founda nook and settled her body into it so she could relax as the water lapped at her sides. Hopefully, she thought, Ragnar wouldn't awaken until she got back. After a while longer she got out and shook her coat free of water. She slowly began to make her way back to the hollow to wake him.

"Father!" He called, bounding after a much larger lion. "Where are you going? Can I come?" He pawed his father's leg happily, that signature grin on his face.

"No, son, you may not," his father's deep, rumbling voice answered. The grin on Ragnar's face slipped away.

"Why not?" He said, sitting down on his haunches and looking up at the huge beast of a lion.

"It's time I left and time you learned to be a true lion," He said, a glaring, almost cruel look on his face.

"W-what? You're n-not coming back?"

"No."

"Please don't leave me!" He said, standing as his father turned his back to go. Tears began to fill his eyes and blurred his vision.

"I will leave if I want, Ragnar!" The Beast whirled around and roared in his face. "A lion is strong and does not show weakness!"

Ragnar stood and looked his father in the eye, his own golden ones still misty.

"Yes, sir."

Without looking back, Ragnar's father turned and ran from the forest. The young cub watched until he could no longer see him, and he let one last tear escape.

Ragnar woke with a start, breathing heavy. Momentarily confused, he looked around, not knowing where he was. He soon realized he was in the hollow tree and Anock was gone. He sat up on his haunches, his mane stuck up in different directions. He quickly ran a paw over his head, just barely feeling the scar there. He sighed, remembering the dream. It had been real once. It was long ago, so he just let it pass.

The large lion stretched and then lay down again, front paws crossed in front of him. He supposed he would wait for Anock to return.

Anock stretched, leasurley walking through the woods. Haulting suddenly she got a brilliant idea. With an evil grin, she climbed a near by tree, carefully avoiding leaves and tiny branches that would alert anyone to her presence. She made she she stayed high above as to keep her scent from blowwing downwind, alerting Ragnar. As she perched gentley ontop of the hollow she held her breath, ears pricking forward to hear any movement whatsoever. When nothing came, she leapt from the hollows branches and landed square on her four paws in front of ragnar, being sure to let most of the force be distrubuted between her three unhurt paws. "BOO!!! WAKE UP!" she screamed childishly, closing her eyes and grinning.

Rangnar didn't so much as flinch when she surprised him. He gave a grin, showing he appreciated her attempt. He just instead got up and stretched, his forepaws splayed out in front of him.

"If I didn't know any better," he chuckled, "I'd say you were a cub."

He smiled at her, and then stepped out of the hollow log. He shook out his long, messy mane and sighed. He saw how clean Anock's coat and mane were, and decided she must have cleaned herself before he was up. He stood flicking his tail, lost in thought.

Anock frowned at her failed attempt "I'd rather stay a cub then be a boring old adult with responsibilities... Its a better way to spend your life." she smiled happily and stepped alongside Ragnar. "There is water over there if you need some..." she said without looking at him, as if she had read his mind. She yawned, pearly whites glistening "So what did you want to show me?" she asked with curiosity, she was ready for an adventure.

"I had almost forgotten," he smiled, padding away from the log and motioning with his tail for her to follow. "I think you'll like it."

The then went into a brisk walk, until finally he went into a run. It felt nice, running through the forest. The forest was home, it was familiar. He glanced back to see if she was keeping up, and she seemed to do so nicely. He went back to the cliffs where he had first met Anock, then he started climbing up the mountain, careful to find places on the rocky surface for him to find foothold. He kept glancing back, but Anock was still there.

Finally, after about one or two hour's climbing in silence, the two climbed one last rock. In front of them lay an old abandoned human's castle, one that had once belonged to a viking from long ago. It was covered in snow because they were so high up, and in some places the walls were crumbling.

"This is it," he purred proudly, glad to show her his discovery. The ground was freezing, but he didn't care. Their kind were made for this environment. Their African cousins wouldn't be able to take the cold, but Nordic lions could.
