Changing the lighting?

So uhm... I have a question. I really want to make a dark map to test glowing presets but I don't know how. Besides havng a cieling and changing the sky. Thou they don't really help. Does it have to do with coding or something? I'd really like to know.

There really isn't any other way that I know of  to darken or lighten the map besides going into the Sky Maker and adjusting the Dawn/Sunrise/Day/Night light portion of it.
