I have had this issue happen to me when I use my laptop on Wifi monitored by the city. I usually get that error because the contacts to the server are blocked. Check your firewall ad internet security settings, make sure the program is running with administrative permissions and is not tagged as a virus.

i think this is it, i checked my firewalls status, it said that "public networks" is connected but that Home or work (private) networks" are unconnected. im not the best when it comes to computers so im kinda confused lol. (I did check that my fire wall is allowing FH through and it said it is.)

Well, i know that public networks are more commonly unsecured and firewalls will give data  a much harder time getting though. Make sure FH has administrative rights and, if you can, add it to your virus clients whitelist.

Well, the methods differ from program to program, but the first thing I would recommend is setting your home network to being a private network so your virus protection knows it can trust it. Then look for something like Firewall settings, and try to find a Whitelist / Allowed Programs and add the .exe for FH to the list.
I might be able to help more, but you'll need to tell me what virus protection you use.

do you mean like AVG? cuz thats what i have. I also made sure that FH is allowed through firewall. And how do you set your home network to being private? I could always ask one of my family members though.

If someone in your home knows more about the virus program than you, I would recommend asking them to make sure it's not being blocked. I don't use AVG, so I'm not sure if you have to do it through the windows control panel.
What version of windows are you using?
I'm guessing 7 or Vista.

I don't know to be honest. I never bothered getting FH+ and I don't really plan to.
