I think I have a phobia!
« on: March 02, 2012, 04:50:07 pm »
This is really off topic- like REALLY off topic, but me and my family are going to Disney World soon, and I really don't wanna go. But it seems I have to, and it seems a normal person may say- "Well this is awesome! I'm forced to go to Disney World! :D" But not me. People have died on rides, about only 4 or 5, and this is enough to make me not want to go. First off, I hate traveling. If it was somewhere else though, I would probably be less worried. Deaths like death on rides just scares me!

The fact that it was so sudden and in front of so many people, it's just terrifying! I am fine with other deaths, like animal attacks... but not rides.

Is this a phobia? And I really need some help! Or atleast someone to talk to me.. Thanks.

I suppose it is a sort of phobia, of amusment park rides.

Like most fears, fearing you will die on an amusment park ride is slightly irrational. You're more likely to die in a car crash. But I'm assuming you don't have a fear of car rides.

The thing to do is, pick rides that won't give you a heartattack, but don't let the fear of "Disney World Death" keep you from having a good time. I mean; it's Disney, not a test center. The employees try to keep the rides an park as safe as they can, not only for your benefit but their own as well. Thousands of people ride those rides every day, and we're not heading about daily death tolls at Disney world, so you have little to fear.

If worse comes to worse, and you're really against the rides, enjoy the park's other attractions. Have a good time, and don't let a bunch of freak accidents preven you from doing so.

Disney world is fun and safe. Don't let accidents scare you to death. Just enjoy the fun with your family and think about all the good things. Go to some rides that won't give you a heart attack or rides that are safe, meet some Disney characters, see some shows (not on tv, you know what I mean) and hang out with your family and maybe even your friends!

Just go on the small rides at first. a merry go round if they have those (I've never been to a Disney land) and just kind of work your way up slowly. Prove to yourself that the rides will not kill you. If you do it slowly and push yourself where you need to, you can over come this phobia of yours!

A fear of something and a phobia of something are two different things.

A fear turns into a phobia once you start changing your normal behavior to avoid your fear. For example, I have a phobia of spiders; if there is a spider in my bathroom I usually use, I will go to a different bathroom in the house instead of using that one.

It's more the webs for me, the other day I was told to put the garbage out and I refused to leave the house because there are spider webs near the door. I once also stood out the front of the house for almost an hour yelling for someone to come out and clear the spider webs out of the way so I could go inside. Didn't help that I almost walked through them, stepped back and a HUUUGE spider dropped down from the tree to fix the little damage I had done. I almost had a panic attack.

Its not likely that your going to die on a ride but yes it does happen. Ive never been to Disney World or anywhere like that (besides Luna Park) so i wouldnt know what to expect.

As Kyugima said start off with a small ride such as that teapot ride or something. Get comfortable with those safer rides before going onto something extreme. You dont have to go onto something like a roller-coaster straight away, take a ride on it when you feel comfortable.

I dont go on them rides because i fear the same thing and i dont want to feel sick. Anyone heard of the ride The Cha Cha? Thats as extreme as im gonna go. If its close to the ground im fine with it, up high and very far from the ground i wont bother.

There is no phobia of theme park rides just to say, make one up if you like ^^ something to pass the time.

Right Ingredient. Though I never go on outside roller coasters (gosh I am so frikin scared of those who knows why) I love inside ones. Try Space Mountain after moving from up about 2 rides or so. I don't know about you, but I screamed all the way through space mountain. You. Should. Have. Heard me.

Yes, inside roller coasters i find are less scary. Went on one once and it wasnt scary at all just a nice breezy ride. I enjoyed it. Never heard of Space Mountain before though, i dunno wat it is.

I dont recall ever screaming from a ride (except the giant swing at camp) its going down that makes me nervous. Like climbing a tree. You can climb up easily but the hardest part is getting down, you feel nervous doing that. I usually hold in my screams because i tend to get headaches from doing so.

My friends sister is a real dare devil, being 8 she goes on the biggest, scariest rides more than once! She enjoys herself. My friend and i dont dare though. We always scare eachother by saying something bads gonna happen and we end up not going on at all.
