Map export problem...
« on: March 08, 2012, 12:48:47 am »
Ok so I've been working really hard on this map for my group. It's almost done so I tried to export it to Cape of Distant Worlds. It went through the process but at the end it gave a few errors and when I go to the map through the Cape of Distant Worlds, there are things missing in the map. Like a cave or a group of fir trees, and some sakura trees. The portal area of the map is actually like...how do I say this? Not up to date? Like in the previous saved map I had 2 portals side by side and afterwards I removed one and then saved the game that way but in the "broken" map I see two again. What is going on?? I really need this done soon :(

This is what's supposed to be there:

This is how it is in player mode:

I'm finding it hard to understand exactly what you mean by this. May you please take pictures of it and show me?

Try redownloading the objects again?

You may be going into the wrong portal. When you create maps, and then export them as a different name, you often have two different portals. One for the old, one for the updated and exported, I'd say try running through and seeing if that's the only portal to that map.

AH! Yeah! I do have two portals. But they both say the same thing...and when I go through one, it's the old one and when I come back to the Cape there's only one portal again. And it's the old version. How do I know which one to go through? Will it fix it if I go through the right one?

I'm not really sure how it works myself, but I know one is the exported, and the other is the saved map. Hm... GL Stuff never really works for me when I export them. So I suggest asking the person who made those meshes if there is anything specific you have to do to the meshes to get them to work.

Not certain where to even point this.

But as seen in the screens, your maps do not show the same things, especially if you look at the portals, 1 show 2 portals, the other one does not. This itself should be some sort of duplicate of the map.

The has portal box creates a portal to cape and is the only REAL way of getting into your map from cape, and back to cape again from your map. So if it's a stand alone map it must have the "Has portal" checked. Also keep in mind that a map that you do make in the game from the terrains folders work as one map. And if you export the very same map YET another portal will be created for the same map in cape.

The exported map is only really there so you can easily send the map to other users, but there's no point in just exporting for the sake of exporting, so make sure you just have the actual map laying in terrains, and delete duplicates in the exports folder for the map if you aren't going to send it in a zip to someone else, then after that delete it.

Another thing clearly noticed is that some of the objects misses a material file or fails to export it, this will probably cause the map maker to skip exporting the files all together or maybe even the object group the object lies in. As mentioned above, install the said missing objects into my_objects folder again if possible and it might resolve that issue.
