Objects and Map tips
« on: April 01, 2012, 12:45:00 am »
ok, so, I have this Warriors group, and I have a really cool map for it (or so everyone says) but I want some tips on making maps, like how to make them smoother, and how to make bigger maps with more detail. I have already read the tutorials (They were lot's of help, thanks for posting them!) but they didn't cover everything I wanted to know, like how to make smooth Heightmaps so you don't have to jump to get higher. And I know it said I have to use a small brush for detail, but I am finding it hard to do. If anyone could give me tips(Other than just to practice) I would love to hear them!

And, I was wondering: How do you download all the cool objects you see in all the really, really good maps? Like, where do you find the download links?

If you want to see my first ever map, follow this link to download it: http://www.mediafire.com/?n1oh78n598rnhju Be wary when you enter the map, a roleplay might be going on.

I would love to hear any feedback/comments/suggestions you have for me!

And another problem I am having is that in mapmaker, the little red arrow that says where I am isnt accurate. How can I fix that?

I use a free program called GIMP, it's much like Photoshop only it's free XD you use the pencil tool then I use the smudge tool to smooth it down until there are no more bumps. The blur tool is also helpful.
I suggest you download GIMP, it's virus-free. You can download it here:
http://www.gimp.org/
and the cool things that you see in maps are called meshes. You can download them here on the forum in the FeralHeart Creations section. Most of them come with instructions so that'll pretty much be self explanitory.
And I'm not really sure on the red arrow part. I'll leave that for someone else to figure it out.
Hope this helps...
