an operating system is the version of windows your running. your normal desktop when you log in to your computer you click on the start menu and right click My Computer Click properties you may see a small box or a large box on your screen and one line of text will say the operating system
list of operating systems you may have
Windows XP Professional/.(x64)
Windows vista
Windows 7
Possibly but very unlikely Windows 2000

where it says your operating system it should show you how much memory your computer has in either GB or MB (If you have over 1GB your fine and the game just hates your computer for an unknown reason) (if you have less you need to upgrade your computers RAM (random access memory) but if its a laptop that may not be possible without contacting a professional)
