Water size and placement
« on: April 14, 2012, 09:18:32 pm »
Hello all! I've been searching the forum for a while and I can't seem to find the answer to 2 problems I'm having. Could any of you help me out?

The first is: I am working on a map that objects will be placed under the water in an air pocket where characters can actually sit

Example:

(SOLVED) The second is: I tried to place water on a floating island and the water extends through the island and all the way to the ground, I only want the water to be on top of the island not underneath as well.

Example:

I hope the pictures help! If you know how to solve these problems (if even possible) please comment!
Thanks!

For both of these, you need two different things.

For your first problem/question, you know how you can select water material, change its width and length? Well, you can also change the depth, that's the middle set of numbers. If you change it to a specific height, it'll only go down so far, and you'll be able to create the pocket.

For your second one, go into object maker. Go to the second tab, and you should be able to create a sphere, or block of water. Well, I don't really remember which tab it is, but if you mess around with the object maker and find the sphere or box, you'll be able to add it as a water object, thus creating only a small area of water. (However you can also try the previous information to do the same thing.)

Ok so I tried changing the depth number by both typing in numbers smaller than one and using the arrows but it keep resetting the number back to one after I try to test it.

It'll say it's back to one, but try and go and actually test it RIGHT after placing and changing it. Sometimes it gimps itself up.

I tested it and nothing. I can still swim underneath

You can't make it less than one, I don't think... Make it like two. It'll be small enough, (in theory) and you should be able to swim under it... I'll go mess around in map maker in a second if you can't figure it out.

You may also be able to just stretch out a water sphere to make it work?

I'll try that out and see what works. It would be really cool to have the appearance of water the surface.

Edit: Yea, still no luck. Oh well. Thanks for trying to help me out ^^

Stretching the water sphere didn't work?
