Could be useful, if you continue to have problems, to make a crummy little 'test' map to mess with. That way, if it works, you can sort out the difference that's causing yours not to work properly, and if it doesn't you can try to fix it without risking the map you've probably already put a lot of work into. Wish I could be a bit more helpful on this one, but I tend to solve technical problems by trial and error as they come, so I'm only knowledgable after the fact. XD
To the second question, for my part, I'm drawn to literate RPs for two reasons: firstly, I'm just a tiny bit Asperger-y when it comes to grammar and the English language (chatspeak agravates me. I don't know why, it just does), so the style suits me better. Secondly, I tend to like the people in them. I certainly don't think that literate RPers are better or worse people than non-literates; I just happen to get along better with them, and they're usually older players. My two cents.
That said, if people are coming up to an RP you've made and getting angry about whether it's literate or not, they're just being rude. They've got plenty of others to choose from; no reason to change yours to suit the complainers.
