Height Map Terrain Problem
« on: June 02, 2012, 03:11:59 pm »
Hello, I seem to be having trouble's bringing my height map into the game. Whenever I type the map name, into the given box in map maker. The entire game crashes, is there any way I can fix this? The map is also a large one, but I have no intention of making it smaller.

Thank you for taking the time to read and respond, I appreciate it!

Height map requirements;

513x513 pixels
One layer
Greyscale
PNG
No alpha channel (If using GIMP, this can be changed by right clicking in the layers toolbox on your height map.)

Am also encouraging to go into map maker, save map name first, that way you can save your height map as follows;

FH>Media>Terrain>(YourMapName)

Does it have to be 513x513, because that's really small and I've seen maps that are huge, so how do they do that?

You change the size of your map via the map maker in game with the world options.

As long as height map is relative what want via terrain, then once it is made, you can adjust height and width/length of map via the map maker.

Right so now the map is 513x513, one layer, grayscale, and its PNG, and im not quite sure what alpha channel is and where to find that (it wasn't in tools) thats the only thing that might be off because it still doesn't work.

If ur using gimp, right click on the layer, and ull see remove alpha channel, make sure u click that, if its already dimmed out (meaning alpha channel is already moved) it could be another problem

Generally if you are using GIMP, the default is no Alpha Channel. So unless you have changed it to 'yes' for another project, you shouldn't have to change anything. Also I have found in the past that if you copy the terrain png, and paste it onto another blank project (513x513 and all the other requirements), this seems to fix the problem as well. I hope I helped a bit, but I doubt it, as the two masters beat me to it :P
