Height Map Problem
« on: September 04, 2012, 10:55:11 pm »
Hi. I recently made a Height Map for a map I am making, but when I attempt to put it into the map it crashes everytime.

I tried using other height maps, and those crashed too. Even the ones with almost no detail. I made my height map with Paint.NET.

Help would be appreciated.
If you need to talk with me, feel free to contact me via PM.

Is it
  • Greyscale
  • 512x512 / 513x513
  • 1 layer
?

Also, I recommend GIMP for making heightmaps. It's easier in my opinion, and GIMP is free.

Well I have never really worked on making maps for Feral Heart so I'm sorry if I can not give you a better explanation to solve your problem but possibly this could help you along with the things xRubyx already suggested :)

Goodluck. If I find anymore information I will try to link you here.
You could also check out this video:

And definately switch to GIMP its free and a much better art program to work with :)

I had this problem too!  But I figured it out...
You have to download gimp (it's free and it won't harm your computer)
When you get it, click new, BOTH SIDES MUST BE 513.  Also, you'll see an additional options under the sizes, clikc it and change the clolors from RGB to grayscale or the map WILL NOT WORK AND YOU WILL HAVE TO RESTART.  So, then you draw your map, dark areas are the lowest, white are the highest, and gray is the ground inbetween.  Try to use multiple layers for more detail, but DON'T merge them.  Then save it in /C:/Feral Heart/media/terrains as a png file.  It will ask if you want to merge or flatten CHOOSE FLATTEN.  Then save it.  Then do the stuff for the map.  I aslo found this tutuorial halpful for detail: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDnsC4T4r9Y&feature=related
Good luck :)
