A preset is a character with custom made markings and textures etc not found in the official game. People create them by using art programs like GIMP or photoshop and editting the feline/canine body, head, eyes, tail, mane, wing files etc in the game folder and then exporting the files into the game. Presets just allow people to go the extra step of creating a character unique and different to anyone elses character in game and yes of course they can be used in game.
If you look here you can find a bunch of helpful tutorials of how to make your own preset under the huge PRESET section :)

Here is an example of one of my own presets :)

Sure the preset can be used in game. If you create a preset you have to make sure that once it's made that the preset's file are saved inside the FeralHeart "My_Presets" folder within one of the subfolders "preset_1" "preset_2" etc. Once that is done you go in game select "tools" on the main menu and then "preset maker" scroll to option "V" and export the file that corresponds to the preset number file that you saved your preset in. Once you do that you'll be able to walk around with your preset on your feline/canine character since the preset is like a second skin on top of the model. Unfortunately no one else in game will see your preset since the presets are not saved on the server. The only way for others to see your preset is if you share the preset's fhp file in the "presets" folder and give the download of it to your friends or whoever you are trying to get to see your character. Same goes if you want to see another person's preset you take that fhp file of their preset and stick it in your "preset" folder. If you check out the many tutorials you'll be able to find out more about presets and even how to make your own :) Hope that helps

Aye, Sura is pretty much covering it all.

Some presets are made even more detailed.. Turned into a skeleton dog/cat, missing parts of the animal, see through, invisible, moving and flowing liquid-looking markings.. There are a lot of different types of presets.

If you want to make one, I suggest looking at the manual on the website or a tutorial on youtube.
