I've never seen a true fading script, but you might be able to try the code (found in Tigg's preset coding thread) for multiple frames and use a several versions of the texture with varying transparencies to make it look like it's fading (it works a bit like a gif, I think). It's only a theory and I can't be sure it would work, but might be worth a shot.
