Gimp! y u no work!?
« on: November 03, 2012, 05:46:03 pm »
Okay, need help. So, uh, GIMP I know, is a popular way to make height maps. Well I've tried, and every single time it says that my map can't be found. I'll briefly put down my steps that I take for this. If you see any errors, please tell me.

Steps:

1. Open up new file and make it 513 pxls by 513 pxls. And then Grayscale.

2. Page opens and I make my map. (I make all different features a different layer set at transparency)

3. File, save as, make sure that it is a .png, then go into feralheart folder>media>terrains, then I save. (Lets say I call the file "Map")

4. Open up My Computer to make sure it's saved.

5. Open Feralheart (game) and go into tools>map maker

6. Tab, Height map text box

7. Type in "Map.png"

8. Box appears "Cannot find Map.png"

Why!? D:

When making a height map, follow these simple steps

513x513 (check)
greyscale (check)
one layer
no alpha channel (toggled in the layers section of gimp  by right clicking your single layer)
.png

Also, in most cases, I always save my map in Feral Heart first so that it creates a folder for the map in the terrains folder.

So if i was making a map called ForbiddenLands, I'd go into map maker, make a quick save of the name, and then close out.

Then I'd go make my height map, and save it to FH>Media>Terrains>ForbiddenLands

When saving the file name, it is best to save it in a format such as (MapName)Terrain.png so mine would be ForbiddenTerrain.png.

Once the png is in the designated map folder, it should work fine
