Serious Object Problems!(Resolved, but useful tips are in here!)
« on: November 15, 2012, 07:01:08 am »
This problem is seriously affecting my map making abilities.

Alright, I'm sure those of you who are avid map makers will be familiar with this. You'll know that some object packs already have a .object file with them, and others don't, which means they require you to manually install them in the object maker.

For me, any objects I had to manually install, or anything I've edited in the object maker no longer show up in my maps when I test them from the Cape. This includes many of my favourite objects, along with all the retextured things and experimental objects I've made.

I really don't know what could be causing this, and I desperately need the help of anyone who knows what's going on!

Make sure the objects were installed into new object groups, not ones that came with the game (Default, MyTrees, MyRocks, MyPlants, Miscellaneous).

You could try exporting your map if you haven't done that already, that would tell you if there are any errors in the exporting. If there are errors like "Cannot find texture for [object].mesh" it may skip exporting some objects.

I also have this problem so i'm not really sure of what the best solution is.
Will be inactive due to work and exams.

Hmm. For a long time, I had been using the default groups, since they previously had no trouble handling new objects.
Just now, I made a test map with every single non-original object I had put in those groups.
For some reason, the objects I had put in MyPlants and MyTrees weren't working, but everything from MyRocks and Miscellaneous was. Weird, because nothing was working at all last time O_O
Ah, well. I'll try putting all of those objects into different groups and come back to you with how that went...

Alright, here's the solution at last!

Moving all the glitching objects into a new group IS the answer. However, you must do them all at once. No stopping to test them in a map. I did that with a few objects to make sure they worked. They did. Then I went ahead and did aaaaall the other objects in that group, and when I tested them in the Cape, they didn't show up with the first few objects.
So:

Move objects to a new group.
No testing in between, do them all at once.

Everything should work fine if you do that. This does, irritatingly, mean that you can't ever add to that group again. So if you want to install an object that's just a single something instead of being part of a pack, I recommend waiting until you have a few single objects that would fit in a group together, then make a group for them all at the same time.

You should also make sure that the new object group has an original name, otherwise, if someone downloads a map with an object group that has the same name, it will overwrite yours and all of those items will dissapear again.
